The word legendary is thrown around far too often in the music world. Too many bands make the claim early in their year without any real proof to back them up. The Roots are legendary, now and forever. It does not take hundreds of people lined up grooving their hearts out to drive that point home, but it certainly helps.

Coming a unique fusion of John Coltrane style jazz, early Outkast hip-hop and Buckwheat Zydeco funkadleics The Roots take everything you knew about musical genres and destroys it. Just when it seems as if the listener knows what is going on the band mixes it up infusing their songs with everything from the rap sensation “This is Why I’m Hot” to what can only be described as a transcendental solo by their bass player.
The Roots have a way of turning everywhere they go into a party. Many had thought that it was going to rain and the skies had taken on a distinct darkness that made many people reluctant to stay in one place. Within seconds of hitting the stage the band, consisting of everything from MC’s and drummers to tuba players, tapped into a true party vibe and never let go.
Hip hop with a real, honest message is becoming a rarity in the music business. The Roots used their time on stage not just to turn the event into a massive party but to talk to the audience about how they need to stop fighting and learn to love each other. And though the message itself usually does not go over that well in a society that can be described as anti-sentimental the crowd seemed to take it all in with a smile. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
