Technical Difficulties Don’t Darken Oct. Set Print E-mail

Had Blue October’s die hard fans not been squeezed uncomfortably against the small fence protecting the rent-a-cop security guards, the band just may have been booed off stage. Not for any fault of their own, but more so the fault of the incapable sound crew who did a horrible job preparing the mics for Blue October’s 4:15 p.m. set.

Visibly, lead singer Justin Furstenfeld was frustrated, as he switched mics multiple times during the beginning of the set. Then, everything naturally came together as Furstenfeld dominated the stage and excited the large afternoon crowd.

With songs like “Hate me”, “Into the Ocean”, and “Calling Me” all on the set list, the fans were treated to song after song with sing-a-long qualities. Blue October made its triumphant return to Chicago and nailed the respect of nearly every Lolla afternoon fan – even those already securing a spot for the Pearl Jam set at the AT&T stage right next door.

Some of the fans in the crowd were turned onto this indie-rock sensation through the band’s “American Wedding” soundtrack appearance, but many caught on to the band through the help of its 2006 platinum-selling album “Foiled”.

Lollapalooza should be more than happy to welcome this Texas born band back in the future years, but for now, Blue October fanatics will have another opportunity to se ethe band Oct. 11 (Yes, October) at the Riviera. Furstenfeld, himself, said the show will be a big treat for Chicagoans. Watch CityVision’s interview with him here.
