Dancing Piano Man Holds Steady Print E-mail

Watching from the audience, you couldn’t really tell which were faster -- the piano player’s fingers or his dancing feet. The Hold Steady has to be one of the most unique and weirdest performances at Lollapalooza with their unique vocals and interesting sound, you think to yourself while watching, “this is some weird stuff, but what they are saying is true.”

Trippy.

When music and lyrics collide, it makes for a great musical experience. While I didn’t know a ton about The Hold Steady going into this show, I was instantly captured with the musical talent both inside and out – all in the inner workings of their music.

Their lyrics talk about how guys view girls and reminisce about old school music and how it was back in the day. For example, one of the first things said before a song was “how people don’t think that they are old, but they are old school”. It almost sounds like the lead singer is reading out of a Dr. Sues book with all the uniqueness of his lyrics, which was the perfect tool to capture the audience and draw in passerbys as they walked past the stage and prepared to lineup for a prime spot at the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s set.

The art in their style and song is very impressive and adds to the entertainment component. For these New Yorkers, who were made famous with back-to-back stellar albums (“Sunday” in 2005 and “Boys and Girls in America” in 2006), they have paved the way for a bright and prosperous career of the future.

One of the best recaps I have seen for the fvstieal. Great job Paul. Looks like you just missed the deluge there. Wow what a storm. Of course, I bet the show would have continued even in the muck!
