Café Tacuba Drives Fans Wild Print E-mail

It would seem that every Café Tacuba fan in the Midwest turned up for this show. And not only did they turn up, they brought Mexican flags, wrestling masks, and an insane amount of energy. The fans were screaming and shouting for Café Tacuba before Modest Mouse had even finished on the stage behind them. They were going mad, begging the photographers to take their picture, body surfing when there was no music, and singing, screaming, and chanting.

Read Lumino Magazine's Lollapalooza coverage all this week! Interviews, concert reviews and more are on their way!

When the band finally entered the stage, the lead singer, dressed in a white suit with a white hat that covered his eyes, stood completely still for about a minute. Then suddenly, he broke into antics that can best be described as a musical aerobic workout. He was jumping, screaming into the mic, running back and forth, and twitching manically. His diminutive size made the spectacle all the more entertaining.

Café Tacuba’s music is a sort of high-powered rock, bordering on metal, with a hint of Mexican flair. It was tough to hear what he was singing, and I’m not sure if that was the point or if the mic wasn’t working properly (there were some other mic problems throughout Lollapalooza, including an incident where Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October shattered his mic on the floor of the stage because it wouldn’t work). Fans didn’t seem to mind, though. Their screaming just got louder and louder.

Even though the entire concert was in Spanish. Those that don’t speak the language felt ever so slightly left out by that but overall, the show was highly entertaining. If you are looking for something to make you sing along, groove a bit, and probably giggle as well, Café Tacuba is the band for you.
