Those of you who like the swamp rock sounds of Creedence Clearwater Revival need to run to the store to grab John Fogerty’s latest solo effort Revival. It is an amazing and skillful compilation of songs that could be written by none other than Fogerty himself and will make you long to take an aimless drive on a hot summer evening.

" Revival"
(Fantasy)
Released October 2, 2007

Revival starts out with a sweet little tune called “Don’t You Wish It Was True” with lyrics that speak about social issues, wars, and the hope for a better world that will make you swing your hips while nodding your head in agreement. The CD slows down a little after that with tunes like “Broken Down Cowboy,” which is more country than rock with its twangy guitar solo and lonely cowboy subject, and “River Is Waiting,” which is definitely rainy day music.

Halfway through the CD, Fogerty hits you with “Long Dark Night,” a song that any CCR fan will be able to get into and it’s about here that the rest of the CD starts to pick up some serious steam. “Summer of Love” is something that sounds a little more Hendrix than Fogerty but works well to give more variety to the album, while “Natural Thing” isn’t one of the CD’s highlights, necessarily, and is a bit repetitive. However, “It Ain’t Right” (and the rest of the album from here on out) makes up for it, Fogerty’s voice practically grabbing you and shaking you and making you move to these incredible examples of rock music.

Revival is an amazing set of songs that is absolutely representative of some of Fogerty’s best writing skills. The songs are raw, unprocessed, simply orchestrated and will have you tapping your foot long after the music’s over.
