Alicia Keys Entertainment Art "As I Am" (RCA) Released November 13, 2007

Alicia Keys long waited follow up to 2003’s The Diary of Alicia Keys is here entitled, As I Am. It’s about time but it looks like it was worth the wait, As I am is sexy, stylish and passionate R&B soul. You can really hear her growth and is clearly getting the confidence to take risks and branch outside of her safety zone.

This album delivers coming out of the starting gate with the beautiful instrumental titled track. The Anthem track “Superwoman,” sounds like a woman struggling but slowly gaining the confidence much like Keys has through the years with each album. “Lessons Learned” lives and breathes a voice of a woman knocked down but still has some fight left in. You hear the truth dripping from Keys and the backing vocals by John Mayer makes this a perfect single and one of the many highlights on the album.

Along with Mayer, you have, the songwriter to the rock stars, Linda Perry coming in to assist on 3 tracks and drop her pixie dust magic. It’s amazing what a career Perry has had since her days of 4 Non Blondes. Perry’s been responsible for helping people like Pink and Christina Aguilera’s careers strive.

It’s been quite some time since we’ve had new material by the piano sultress and it’s great to have new music from her. They say third time is the charm and it’s never been more true then with As I Am.
