CSI is one of the most successful TV show franchises ever. Who knew there are so many fascinating ways to use science to solve a murder or commit one for that matter? CSI: Miami was the first in the series to spin-off in 2002 followed by CSI: NY two years later. With CSI: Miami now in its sixth season, you can now keep up on your forensics by picking up the recently released fifth season on DVD.

Created by Anthony E. Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue
Starring David Caruso, Emily Procter, Adam Rodriguez, Khandi Alexander, Jonathan Togo, Rex Linn and Eva LaRue

Each CSI has its own style and Miami’s is painted in pastels with the backdrop of the beautiful beaches with equally beautiful people. Every CSI has their head of the crime lab whether is Gil Grissom in Las Vegas, Det. Mac Taylor in New York and Miami has it’s of Lt. Horatio Caine.

David Caruso plays the over the top Caine, a character that you either love or you hate. If you aren’t familiar with his character go onto YouTube and look for edited clips of Caruso. Each week Caruso puts on his sunglasses, places his hands to his hips and delivers these silly one-liners to the camera. Like I said, you’ll either love him or hate him.

It’s hard to keep up with all the great shows these days so it’s nice that they are releasing the whole season on DVD. With that in mind, I was a little surprised this season is just now being released for CSI: Miami since its already six episodes into the current sixth season. You would think CBS would want last season’s DVD collection out in time so viewers can either catch up or do prep work to relive storylines and characters for the new season.

None the less, CSI: Miami – The Fifth Season has hit the shelves bringing us all 24 episodes and a health collection of special features. This season had its share of great storyline that started off huge with Caine and fellow CSI Eric Delko heading down to Rio. This is a plot from last season to seek out gang lord Antonio Riaz for the death of Caine’s wife and Delko’s sister, Marisol. The episode looks beautiful in part because it was filmed on location in Rio and was perfect to start off the season.

This box set like all the CSI DVDs include several great documentaries. This one has a total of five that range from what was all involved in taking the show to Brazil to an actual tour of the real Miami-Dade Police Department. As always they are well done and give you a little peak of what it takes to produce a weekly television show.

If that isn’t enough, they have provided five episodes with audio commentary. I’m a big fan of the commentaries and I wish they would have provided them for all 24 but they have picked out some of the meatier ones including of course, the season premiere episode “Rio.”

Overall, this is perfect for anyone who is a CSI junky who got behind last season or just can’t get enough of the show. So pick it up and keep up with the current season or just wait until next year when they release season six.

:eek can't the media get over the fact that David Caruso is a great actor who performs his lines with aplomb, no matter how cheesy the line they hand him?

Come on you don't think the whole thing is a bit over the top? Regardless if he's not writing the lines he's still reading them and selling them!!
Like I said you either love him or hate him. I think it's hilarious personally.

Where is David Caruso's son on the show. This person should become a regular.
