Project Revolution has become one of the most anticipated tours of the year with the headliner and founders being Linkin Park. However, their was more than one big name on this tour now in it’s fouth incarnation. This year (much like in previous years) we had My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and HIM, all of which could be headlining their own show. However, this is a chance to play a huge concert, and give the fans the show that they well deserve.

Taking Back Sunday played during the day and almost 3 hours before even Linkin Park would take the stage. Regardless of being early on the bill, this band still pulled a packed audience that could be seen all the way back to the lawn. Even though arguably plenty of fans were there primarily to see Linkin Park, there was still a plethora of fans wearing Taking Back Sunday Shirts to support and help to find a balance. This was also a very special concert for the band because they lost their real drummer recently due to a back injury. Not only that, the current drummer had to learn all the beats in about a week and on this particular day, it was his birthday. Taking Back Sunday was a great way to set up for the next big name band.
My Chemical Romance was up next and started off their show with a nice eruption of fire. Then the stage went dark with the only light emitting was from the lead singers face via a flashlight. What an entrance, but enough about the special effects, the music was as always outstanding. Playing their dark but upbeat melodies, My Chemical Romance got the crowd on their feet erupting with shouts that shook the whole venue. Being the big band they have become through the years, My Chemical Romance commanded and convinced all the males in the crowd to take off their shirts, and swing them over their head like a helicopter. I am guessing lead singer Gerard Way would have the same power with the ladies, but to save them from a law suit, the band stuck with keeping it to guys only, sad but true.
Tonight My Chemical Romance made sure to play fan favorites such as “Helena” and “Carry On.” They were a perfect set up to bring Linkin Park on stage. It was almost like the music gods sent My Chemical Romance to create the transaction from bands like Taking Back Sunday and Him to Linkin Park
And then there was the headliner, the band many fans waited almost all day to arrive. I must admit I was a bit tardy and missed bands like HIM and all the other bands that performed way too in the day. Regardless, much like myself, the majority of the audience were here for Chester Bennington and the rest of the guys that make up, Linkin Park. The chants slowly began building “Linkin Park…Linkin Park” until it was unclear whether it was the speakers or the crowd that dominated the space. Finally the lights went down and the moment that everyone was waiting for had arrived.
Linkin Park came on stage with lights so bright it blinded the crowd and could probably be seen for miles away. It in turn created a silhouette of each band member as they appeared on stage. Linkin Park delivered early by playing old favorites such as “Crawling,” “Numb,” and “In The End,” as well as many numbers from their new album. Mike Shinoda was ready in his rock outfit wearing some type of red piece of cloth attached to his arm. Chester was singing in the shouting sort of way as the lights continuing to be so bright they appeared to be going through the holes in his ears. The audience received what they had long been waiting for, pure musical bliss.
With an excellent mixture of songs, Linkin Park defiantly was the crescendo for most the night. Linkin Park along with all the bands made this another wonderful Projekt Revolution tour. Let’s hope they don’t wait another three years and make this again an annual tour like it began back in 2002.
