Lost is one of those shows that if you watched the first episode you were hooked. The opening moments of the Lost pilot, back in September 22, 2004, has to be the best introduction to characters in television history. I didn’t even plan on watching the show but the minute it came on I couldn’t look away.

Lost has been popular with both critics and viewers alike from the beginning. In turn, it has created such a huge fan base that everyone has become completely obsessed to find the answers to the mysteries of the island and all the occupants. Much like the serials of the fifties, Lost is one of those shows you can’t wait until next week’s episode.

For those of you who have been living with out a TV for the last few years, Lost centers around the lives of the survivors of a plane crash on an unknown tropical island some where in the South Pacific. An island that is as much full of mysteries as the survivors themselves. Each week we not only see how the survivors are doing on the island but we also get a peak into the past of one of them as well. One of the unique aspects of Lost lies in the flashback sequences that help to give us a bit more of a back story into our characters. Each flashback is instrumental in fleshing out the characters, yet is also equally important with the events occurring on the island in real time. This is one of the pleasures and unique aspects of Lost.

Many have stated that Lost is the modern day X-Files and in some ways they are right. There are so many twists and turns and surreal elements of reality that the show does have a not of this world feel. In fact there have been so many crazy theories that are searchable on the web with everything that the characters are dead and they are in purgatory to even the island is a reality TV show. All interesting theories, but have also all been rejected as false by the show’s creators.

Whatever the faith and truth is there’s one sure thing you can count on; you never know what is going to happen next. Nor can you get too attached to a character. This is one show that is not afraid to kill off a reoccurring and popular character. And if you think the creators are just making it up as they go along, think again. The creators have promised us they have an end game. In fact they announced earlier this year Lost will wrap up after season six. So with that in mind, we have three more seasons and 48 more episodes to go before we have all the answers.

Now if you’ve missed a few episodes never fear season three is out on DVD. All 23 episodes are here on seven discs with enough bonus features to keep you satisfied. Season three takes place in the Lost world between November 28th and December 23rd, 2004. This season focused a great deal on the mysterious Others at their compound. This year also like previous seasons introduced many new characters (maybe too many). With the hatch blown, the once hermit Desmond is out and about and reveals a special power. Just like previous seasons a few familiar faces say their goodbyes in season three. These are just few of the many surprises we are in store for.

Along with the complete season the bonus material is worth checking out on disc seven. Here you will find deleted scenes, Bloopers, and a nice collection of documentaries and a couple of other interesting bits for fun.

The deleted scenes come in a couple different forms. One is deleted scenes and the other are Lost flashbacks that never made it on the air. All are worth checking and gives you a bit more insight (especially with the short lived characters of Nikki and Paulo) but none will really blow you away.

The documentaries are all well made and give you more insight on the writing and the making of the show. One of the best is entitled “The Lost Book Club” that reveals some of the literary references on the show.

One of the bizarre bonus features is the “Orchid Instructional Film” that is raw footage of the training films for the Dharma Initiative. It’s a weird 2 minutes of footage that includes the outtakes of the filming. It’s in theory is for the person who was to be posted at the Orchid or Station 6. If you pay attention it has certain flash frames that reveal certain images including one that states “God loves you as he Loved Jacob”. If you’ve completed season three then you know that the name Jacob isn’t random.

And if this isn’t enough I manage to come across quite a few easter eggs on disc seven as well. They are all crazy random stuff including one on Hawaiian shaved us that the crew enjoys. One on the submarine the Others have that is really a real one at Pearl Harbor, One on the spider talent and even one with Sawyer that takes you on a tour of his Cage at the Others compound. If that’s still not enough I did find one more, the crazy mind fuck film that Ben’s daughter’s boyfriend Carl is forced to watch in one of the episodes. This is a few minutes long and has crazy imagery, music and odd quotes like “The extinction of desire is nirvana”.

So if and when the writers strike ever ends and season four begins, make sure you are all caught up with season three. If you haven’t even seen the first season then what the hell are you waiting for?
