I was initially connected to this movie, and I mean really connected, as I sat in the movie theater waiting for my feature film to appear after weeding through the annoying amount of previews, popcorn commercials, and now even car commercials. I was discussing with my friend some nonsense when both our attentions were suddenly guided back to the screen.
“This movie is about Nick Powell’s death.”
Well for me, Nick Powills, I thought I had just heard a ghost, God, or some sort of afterlife character – as did my friend. But also, for me, I was intrigued by this film, definitely partly due to it having a link to my name. Well, sort of.
The film follows the wealthy teenage character of Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) as he barely defies death when beaten by his punk classmate Annie Newton (Margarita Levieva) after a false accusation. As Powell lays motionless in a sewer, his ghost or his invisible spirit goes on a rampage to try to connect with Annie and lead a rescue crew to his body’s location.
Much like the Sixth Sense, he isn’t sure who can hear him or see him or feel him. Can he influence the result of the search?
While the suspense is satisfying and the plot isn’t horrible, the movie still feels like a been-there done-that sort of flick. Not to say there is anything wrong with that, just not 100 percent my style.
The special features include some decent deleted scenes, but are lackluster as well. Overall, this is a movie I wouldn’t waste my time on, unless your name is Nick Powell, or Nick Powills.
