It’s hard to argue the success of singer/songwriter Paul McCartney. Whether it’s his years as a Beatle or the last three plus decades of hits as a solo artist, McCartney is one of the most successful artists of all time. Now if you’ve been living under a rock these past thirty some years never fear Rhino is here to save the day. With a three DVD disc set entitled the McCartney Years; you have a career spanning collection of live performances, music videos and a few surprises as well. In fact the collection includes more then forty music videos and over two hours of live performances.

The McCartney Years should satisfy anyone who is a fan of his music that we have all grown up on. On disc one we have the early years in the 70’s with music videos like “My Love”, “With a Little Luck” to even a promo film on the making of the Band on the Run cover art. It’s all here.
On disc two we have the later years of music videos with hits like “Pipes of Peace”, “My Brave Face” and “No More Lonely Nights”. Extras include a behind the scenes documentary on the making of his 2005 CD “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard” at Abbey Road studios.
On disc three we have the “best of” his most known live performances. Included are seven songs from the Wings classic Rock Show tour, four from the wonderful Mtv Unplugged and eleven songs from a show in Glastonbury. These performances are great but as with the Mtv Unplugged I was left wanting to see the whole show.
The two extras on disc three is one of the reasons I wanted the McCartney Years box set in the first place. Here you have McCartney’s performance at the original Live Aid and his recent performance at the Superbowl. Both are solid performances and unless you taped them are relatively unavailable.
The McCartney Years is a great collection that showcases probably the most successful singer songwriters of our or any lifetime. The videos are at times pretty raw and let’s be honest just plain awful. But hey that was the 80’s. So sit back and enjoy the show. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
