“We really want to give back to our fans” Kalnoky said adamantly “we got robbed a couple of years ago and there was just tremendous outpour of support from fans.” In an effort to show just how much the band appreciates the support they have begun doing a series of charity shows. On January 12th the band will be playing the first of their benefit shows at the Gramercy Ballroom in New York City. All benefits will go directly to charity.
“We chose the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation because we felt that we did not want to pick a political charity. Cerebral Palsy effects a lot of people and this is our way of giving back to those that helped us when we were in trouble.” Kalnoky said.
Streetlight Manifesto won’t be the only one taking the stage Thursday night. Joining them will be the rap duo Grand Buffet out of Pittsburgh. “We prefer to go out with different styles playing with us. We don’t want our fans getting bored. If you play with three or four bands all playing the same thing it can get pretty boring,” Kalnoky said “besides, we’re big fans of Grand Buffet we love playing with them.”
Despite the many advances his band has made Kalnoky does not seem all that daunted by them. In fact throughout most of the interview he appeared to be rather guarded about many of the topics discussed. Kalnoky comes off as one of those musicians that, while he may create awesome albums, he also lacks passion. When asked about the making of Manifesto’s newest album he commented that “It was just a bunch of us waking up everyday and going into the studio to put out songs.” Not exactly an electrifying experience regardless of how the final product may sound.
The Streetlight Manifesto is without a doubt one of the great ska bands to hit the mainstream music community today. Even after losing everything they have kept an undying devotion to their fans, something many artists lose over time. Right now the band creates some truly amazing music, just imagine what it would be like if they put some passion into it. |
thats not their name Written by Guest on 2008-03-25 13:16:17 its just Streetlight Manifest not The Streetlight Manifesto | the real name. Written by Guest on 2008-07-10 15:46:06 Its not "Streetlight Manifest" or "The Streetlight Manifesto" it's "Streetlight Manifesto"
| Passion Written by Guest on 2009-04-27 02:33:14 Did you REALLY just suggest that Tomas Kalnoky lacks passion? *sigh* THAT is a mistake even more blatant than the numerous spelling and grammatical errors that occur in this piece, not to mention writing the wrong band name in the title. If you even take five minutes to consider his lyrics, you would realize that Tomas Kalnoky puts everything he has into those songs. If he seems withdrawn in an interview, so what? That's not his element. Obviously his element is music. Think logically. Streetlight Manifesto = 10/10. This article = 3/10. |
