MySpace Local Review - The Hush Sound Print E-mail
Written by NICK POWILLS

Continuing in Lumino’s series of ongoing MySpace Local Review features is the critique of DuPage County-based The Hush Sound, a band quickly maturing its presence on the national music scene with catchy comfortable tunes. The four-piece band, formed in 2005 and nearly disbanded in 2006 with major success missing, is finally piecing the puzzle together as one of Chicago’s next big up and comers – on the brink of Fall Out Boy success.

In fact, the indie band’s backing is Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz’s imprint on the label Fueled By Ramen – Decaydance. After being signed by Wentz and having an explosive 2007, as noted by the band’s nearly 150,000 MySpace fan base and top song “Wine Red” reaching 2.4 million plays, critics are warning the music community to watch out for The Hush Sound in 2008, as the band holds onto one of the most anticipated albums, both locally and nationally.

The band has also done a nice job promoting itself to the MySpace community by building a strong fan base to support songs like “Wine Red” – a song led by co-singer Greta Salpeter, and definitely the band’s frontrunner for song of its Space. The song also features the band’s other strong singer Bob Morris, who sounds like he could instantly take a part in Panic! At the Disco as a co-lead-singer. In fact, the band has toured with Panic! so, that might not be too far stretched.

Another catchy song featured on the band’s MySpace page is “Momentum”, which has nearly 1.6 million plays. The song is solid, but doesn’t complement “We Intertwined” as much, a song with 800,000 plays and a song that is lead by Morris’s great vocals and melodies – which feel comfortable, almost as if this is a band who’s album has been in your stockpile ever since you bought your first New Kids on the Block tape in the 90s.

As for creativeness of the band’s MySpace page – it’s pretty simple. A few photos, a video, a few advertisements, a black background – simple. The band’s photos are pretty good – especially their media shot, and the solo photo of Salpeter at the piano. Much of the comments for the Salpeter solo shot are simple – like, “She’s so hot”, or “Will you Marry Me?” I’m not going to lie – she’s pretty smoking, which doesn’t hurt the band’s image at all.

The band’s album push of “Like Vines” seems to be going glorious for them, as more and more fans are posting craving another headlining tour. This Chicago-based band is set for huge success in 2008. Watch for them to explode much like the Plain White T’s of 2007.
