Walking onto the stage at Chicago’s Park West, Sia with her 5-piece band looked more like a mime troop then a rock band. Dressed all in colorful neon outfits and smiley face masks, Sia and the band opened the show in full costumes, playing a slew of tracks from her new album.

The Australian pop singer has been getting a great buzz ever since she came aboard with the Starbuck’s label Hear Music. Currently in the middle of her North American tour, Sia opened the evening with the hidden bonus track “Buttons,” off of her recently released album, Some People Have Real. Sia’s bubbly personality seems to be a complete contract to her generally dark songs. Her soulful vocals sound some where between Fiona Apple and Joss Stone that make for some perfectly beautiful tunes.

Sia’s star has finally shined after having years of being known as the next best thing. You may have heard her in the past watching an episode of one of your favorite TV shows and not even known it. Her cover of Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android” was featured on the O.C. when the character Marissa dies and her song “Breathe Me,” was featured prominently on the series finale of Six Feet Under as well.

Tonight’s show was at least the 3rd time she performed in Chicago in the last 24 hours. The night before, Sia made a in-store appearance at the downtown Borders and later for a special radio show at the Metro.

Sia seems like the most gracious performer on the planet. She has one of those personalities that can’t help but make you smile. Sporting a blonde Dorothy Hamill haircut and a rainbow scarf reminiscent of Mork from Ork, Sia’s look seemed to match her whimsical set perfectly. A set that consisted of colorful neon shapes of trees and flowers.

In a few short years, Sia has acquired a dedicated and eclectic fan-base that paints rainbows and colorful stars on their faces and watches her every move. Sia seems to have a great releationship with her fans and in between banter, she likes to use the word “rad” a lot, but some how can get a way with it. There’s something really fun about watching Sia and there’s a transformation she goes through just before she starts to sing. If you haven’t seen her, just search for on YouTube and watch it.

“You made this for me with a needle and thread? Fuck-a-roonie,” Sia proclaims in response to one of the many gifts fans presented to her through the show, before launching into, “Death by Chocolate.” One of two songs that features backing vocals by Beck on her new album. A song this evening, which showcased the beauty of the cello hiding in the shadows on stage left.

Closing the night, Sia brought out two songs from her work with the band Zero 7, a duo that has a revolving door of guest singers. Songs “Somersault” and “Distractions” were the perfect songs for a perfect night of beautiful music by a very special and unique performer.
