As if singer/songwriter/Katherine Heigl’s husband Josh Kelley wasn't in town enough, last Thursday Kelley and two gold medalists made a special visit to the Windy City for the Entertainment Weekly, PEOPLE, Sports Illustrated's WINTER HEAT party, presented by Miller Chill.

Just kiddie-corner from Lincoln Park Zoo, the beautiful all white Krem, was a perfect venue for a party entitled Winter Heat. Kelley continues pushing his newly released album "Special Company" - which was released independently on February 5th of this year. Tonight Kelley with his two piece band played quite a few songs off of Special Company. But they also offered up a few well choice nuggets as well, pulling out two fan favorites “Amazing” and “Almost Honest,” along with a wonderful cover of “Hard to Handle.”
The album has done well with reconnecting Kelley to the top scene - however, being connected to fame as Heigl's lover boy and his aggressive touring sure couldn't have hurt. Kelley's buzz has been much stronger following the recent release, after having sub-par reviews and respect drop-off from his 2006 album "Just Say the Word", a follow-up to his hit 2005 album "Almost Honest".
Kelley seemingly is back on top of the scene, and not just the Chicago scene, having linked up with Collective Soul for a nationwide spring tour. As of now there are no Chicago dates but one assumes and hopes that will change.
Josh Kelley wasn’t the only special guests for a great night that included all the Miller Chill you could drink in 3 hours. Olympic Gold medalists and beach Volleyball stars Misty May and Kerri Walsh were around to emcee the evening and sign a few autographs as well. Both girls were smart, funny and very approachable through the course of the evening.
One must also mention the sexy shoes of the already towering six foot plus Walsh was sporting this evening. Walsh looked like a sexy giant in her black shoes and small little cocktail dress. Along with emceeing the evening, Walsh and May teamed up and donated with Visa, to raffle off some Visa gift cards. In all, they gave out three separate prizes of $200, $300 and $500 to the lucky party goers with the winning ticket.
If you weren’t at KREM last week then you missed out on a kick ass party. But never fear, Josh Kelley with or without Collective Soul will surely be back in town soon. Also Misty May and Kerri Walsh told me they will be back in July for their annual trek through Chicago with the AVP Volleyball competition. So there may not be a free goodie bag or cold Miller Chill, but you can still get the chance to watch them in their element.
