After much speculating, Monday’s announcements proved that the rumor mills were right all along . Anyone that has been following the buzz already knew the musical wet dream of the possible line-up for the 2008 Lollapalooza. Radiohead, NIN, Rage Against the Machine along with Kanye West, Wilco and The Raconteurs are just a few of the big names that will be gracing the stages in Grant Park this summer. The three day fest, on the first weekend in August, has continued to gain momentum and this has to be their best line-up so far since taking up regency in our home town.

In the past I have often question if Lollapalooza has really had any headliners. However, if I ever questioned this, all has changed with the heavy hitters this year. It is also nice to see that many of these bands will not have gone through the Chicago area before they play the festival. Radiohead who are playing several festivals this summer is set for the moment to start it all off at Lollapalooza. In the past bands like Weezer, the Pixies and even Widespread Panic had already toured through Chicago several times before their Lolla appearance. They not only oversaturated their presence by the time the festival happened, but also gave fans ample opportunity to see them showcasing their own show instead of an all day festival.

Last year also saw Lolla go head to head with the Virgin Festival. Even though Lolla had some nice names like Pearl Jam, bands like MUSE and Daft Punk did not seem to be the headlining names they needed to compete. Virgin Fest instead had The Police and even stole the Smashing Pumpkins from us. Speaking of the Pumpkins, it’s interesting to see they are once again a no show for Lolla or any dates at all for Chicago since reuniting, shame on you Corgan.

So there you have it, buy your tickets while you can. Every year Lollapalooza has gotten better and better. The recent line-up announcement is so exciting and I can’t believe I have four months to wait. I’m off to the deserts of California in a few weeks for the Coachella Music Festival, yet my mind is already in Grant Park, in the greatest city in the world watching some of the greatest bands around today.
