Flatwater's addition to river picture perfect Print E-mail

Even with temps reaching the mid 90s, Flatwater gave my hot summer night visit the perfect kickoff. Given I was with a beautiful date (which may have added to the ambiance), but let me tell you, the view is perfect.

Flatwater
321 N. Clark St.
River Level
Chicago, Ill.
(312) 644-0283
Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily (food served until midnight)
I do advise making a reservation and requesting an outdoor seat. Also note that Flatwater is located on the river, so, you won’t see it easily from the street – but use your sense of direction (mine is limited) to find this great affordable Chicago gem.

ATMOSPHERE

Although I would highly recommend the outdoor seating at Flatwater, the interior is gorgeous and nicely updated. The design is chic and trendy. When nature calls, take notice to the unusual bathroom setting, as there are four random doors with no indication of which room is for the boys and which is for the girls. But when you figure out the challenge of picking the bathroom, they are nice, clean and fresh – just like the rest of the restaurant.

CROWD

A higher class crowd, nicely dressed and ready to eat and drink on the ater. This is not a place for the rowdy (even though the drinks are fantastic), rather for those dressed to impress – and the perfect Chicago hot spot to bring a date.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

The river view says it all. That is all you will need for entertainment, especially with all the opportunities to wave at all the tourist boats floating by.

SPIRITS

The menu offers a beer flight (sweet) and there is a great selection of wines. My party opted for the hard alcohol. I quenched my thirst with a Grey Goose and cran while my date drank the Capt’n and diet. Both of us agreed the alcohol was generously served in our drinks – a big thumbs up!

GRUB

We both opted for the flat bread pizzas, which both received high marks from us. We also dined on the queso dip. One of the more interesting items on the menu is the hot dog flight and there are plenty of different options to meet the taste requirements of all.

PRICES

Drinks are pricey, food is affordable. If you limit your alcohol experience, you will leave a happy diner – especially with the perfect view.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

It’s on the lake and you don’t have to sacrifice taste. Flatwater is definitely a Lumino favorite.
