Right about this time of year you can feel summer creeping up on the city. Spring may have just sprung but all the big names are coming out to play. This week is no different. Whether you are a hardcore comic book fan or a just like to go out and party at big outdoor festival, this is your week.
Comic book fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the long awaited Iron Man film hits theaters this weekend. Unexpected superhero Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the lead role of Tony Stark, a wealthy industrialist who decides to use his technology to fight the evil he once helped create. Iron Man is the epitome of a conflicted Marvel superhero. If you go out to see a film this weekend, make sure it is this one.
Looking to add a little spice to your weekend? Head out to Lawndale’s weekend long Cinco de Mayo Festival. This annual neighborhood celebration features authentic Hispanic food vendors, live music and a carnival on Sunday. The event runs Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. (1401 S. Sacramento Drive).
If you are looking for a more eclectic scene then check out jazz and neo-soul night at Le Pomme Rouge (108 W. Kinzie St.) every Tuesday. Come out and watch local Chicago musicians and poets perform at the weekly event. Even though it is a trendy establishment, the entertainment gives the evening a bohemian flavor.
Are you feeling guilty about leaving your puppy home alone while you hit the bars? Now you don’t have to. Bring Fido out to Doggy Happy Hour at Joe’s Bar (940 W. Weed St.) every Wednesday night. Enjoy nightly drink specials for you and unique doggie vendors for your pet.
Although summer will not officially start for another few months for many in Chicago, it has just begun. From street festivals to patio parties it is get out there and have some fun.
