For fans of punk or Celtic sounds – Flatfoot 56 is the perfect fixture. For everyone else, they may not be the exact cup of tea, but certainly adventurous enough to deserve the opportunity to enter your ears.
The brothers Bawinkel – Tobin, Justin, and Kyle – along with best friend Josh Robison have successfully formed a Celtic punk band that has launched bagpipes tossed with screaming into mainstream. They have even, in punk-fashion, destroyed “Amazing Grace” (9,238 plays) into a perfect, loud, obnoxious tune sounding nothing close to graceful, yet incredibly intriguing.
Yelling and Irish influences lift this band into many fans hearts, and well, livers, as the brothers plus one have built a solid base of 26,978 MySpace fans across the country. In fact, their aggressive tour schedule along with a home stand at the Beat Kitchen (next scheduled performance July 13) has propelled their crazy Irish sounds nationwide.
Newcomers will instantly be turned on by “Warriors”, the band’s most played song at 87,727 plays, but to fully experience the Chicagoans unique and adventurous sound, newbies should listen to “Loaded Gun” while slamming your weapon of choice – Car Bomb or Guinness.
As for the marketability of their Space and the impressions required to further establish their fan base – Flatfoot 56 has succeed. Their page is well designed, full of strategically placed information; tour dates; photos; videos; and experiences. Other bands should use this site as an example of how to sell your band. This is grassroots social networking marketing at its best.
It always helps to have an eclectic mix of sounds, as well, and Flatfoot accomplishes that, too. With six songs, including “Knuckles Up” (9,178 plays); the fast-paced “City on a Hill” (79,194); and Chinatown Jail Break (74,040), there is no reason these guys shouldn’t sell a few more albums and successfully push a few more national tour dates.
