Comedy Central Delivers DVD Teaser Print E-mail

Comedy Central is one of those channels that can be off your radar if you’re not paying attention. Comedy Central which launched back in 1991 on April Fool’s Day, has slowly become one of the premiere networks on cable today. Through the years they have produced some of the biggest comedies out there today, from South Park, The Daily Show and of course Chappelle’s Show. Now if you don’t have cable, or just need a refresher course, a DVD entitled Comedy Central’s Home Grown has just been released, showcasing some of their more recent shows.

Starring Sarah Silverman, Amy Sedaris, Dave Chappelle, Lewis Black, etc.
Rated: Not Rated
Studio: Paramount

I have to admit I’m a bit confused by this DVD, it’s almost like one long trailer for the channel. The DVD is broken up into three essential parts. Part one is Seeds, which are just some samples from what they refer to as “Green-Friendly” fares. Part Two is Stems, which are sketches from featured episodes of Chappelle’s Show, Drawn Together, Crank Yankers etc. Finally Part Three is Buds, which are complete episodes of shows like The Sarah Silverman Show, Reno 911, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s some great comedy on this DVD. First off I am already a Comedy Central fan. I’ve been watching the channel for years, from the days that Craig Kilborn was hosting The Daily Show to the animated therapist Dr. Katz. So you sold me on the comedy legacy that Comedy Central has created. I just don’t get the choices and all that make up this DVD. Perhaps it may just come down to the simple fact I am not the audience for this DVD. This is a DVD for someone who is unfamiliar with the genius of Comedy Central. So if you’ve been living under a rock or perhaps just want to be introduced to some of their lesser known shows, then this is a DVD for you. Otherwise, Pick up all of the seasons of Chappelle’s Show and the first Season of the Sarah Silverman Show, etc. and call it a day.
