But now as times are forever changing, the rock star life seems to be what is apparent. With video games like Guitar Hero, the song Party Like A Rockstar and reality TV shows like Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, the rock star life is the object of everyone’s fantasy. But no one has broken into the rock star life within the world of words. That is all about to change. On Tuesday, August 5th, Cherry Bomb will be released to the world. Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star is an A-Z guide of living an alternative life written by an author who has seen, heard and lived it all with in the music business. It is geared towards women in their 20s with a bit of a punk/alternative lifestyle and a kick-ass attitude.

Journalist Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna gathered her thoughts, moments and friends to create a book unlike any other on the shelves. And it’s a nice change to add to the mediocrity of every other “OMG can you believe he did this to me; but you’ll eventually get over it” book, which takes up half a room at Barnes and Noble.

I had a chance to sit down and speak to the Borzillo-Vrenna herself to get an insight into the life of a post Billboard, Spin Magazine and Alternative Press writer. “Everything that is in this book I’ve either lived or tried,” says Borzillo-Vrenna, “And if it wasn’t from me, it was my friends and colleagues or should I say ‘Gaggle of Girls’ who helped me along the way.”

Borzillo-Vrenna explained that it took just nearly four months to complete the book, but with other mentions from former contributors and friends like Dita Von Tese (who wrote the Striptease section under S) and Betsy Johnson (holds the section Breast Cancer Awareness), the total time was about six months. But that is a fairly short amount of time for how much detail is put into the A-Z book. Borzillo-Vrenna said, “I was really surprised and impressed of how much stuff I knew. And when you have brainstorming sessions or hold a ‘Rock Chick Focus Group,’ it just comes naturally. These are the moments that I lived and breathed.”

But when it came down to the title of the book, Borzillo-Vrenna said that is was somewhat of a challenge. “It first started out differently; How to Date a Rockstar was the initial idea.” After all, Borzillo-Vrenna did marry a rockstar husband, Chris Vrenna, former keyboardist for Marilyn Manson. “But then when I started adding other chapters on advice and sex, it turned into an overall lifestyle type of book,” says Borzillo-Vrenna. “The Rock Chicks Guide to Life was the second choice and I still love that name for a book, but more brainstorming happened where I was listening to music that is my roots.” She goes on to say, “The song Cherry Bomb was always a song that empowered me. Strong women like Pat Benatar and the Runaways that were defiant, tough and in-your-face type of girl. And it just stuck.”

In the introduction of Cherry Bomb, the song Cherry Bomb by the Runaways has the lyrics, “Hello daddy, hello mom, I’m your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb. Hello world I’m your wild girl, I’m your ch ch ch ch ch cherry bomb.” Those lyrics alone should explain the vibe and feel of the book.

“I was surprised when I was received feedback from other females that read the book that fit somewhat of a cookie cutter appearance,” says Borzillo-Vrenna. “I was complimented on the book from a former USA teen pageant winner. And that threw me for a loop. I wanted the book to be for early 20 somethings, either big or small city.” She goes on to say, “The section on Bottle Service is built for the group of girls that live in the suburbs or small areas where they head to the big city for girls’ weekend. The section on Jobs is geared to the female that is looking to find their break in the music business. And other sections like Networking can be used by an older audience. Now, I can see how my book is for all types of females.”

Although many of the A-Z guide hits on numerous amounts of guilty pleasures (hence the section on Menage a Trois), some of these sections did not have matching stories, but Borzillo-Vrenna told me about some funny moments in her past. In Cherry Bomb, there is a specific section on Entrances, how to make a classy one without the inevitable ‘tripping and landing on your face.’ (Hey, I’ll admit it, I’ve done it.) Borzillo-Vrenna started her entrance story with, “I was covering an award show; I think the American music awards after party and walked up the steps in some trendy downtown L.A. nightclub. I go to wave to a friend with my right arm and my boob popped out. I call it the ‘Tara Reid Incident.’ I was mortified, but I just shook it off and went on with my business. That’s what the book is about, empowerment,” says Borzillo-Vrenna. “Just walk it off and keep your head held high.”

Towards the end of the book, she leaves detailed notes of Tour Bus Etiquette. In this, she mentions why you need to know the rules before you even enter in a tour bus, due to the fact she took a big swig of ‘water’ after a long night of boozing. After chugging half the bottle, Borzillo-Vrenna released that she wasn’t drinking water, but was guzzling ash water from used cigarette buds.

From Bitchy Broads to Rolling a Fatty, Absinthe to Band Boys, it seems like Borzillo-Vrenna really did try to incorporate everything a fun-loving girl needs to know. You never know when one day you try to sneak backstage at Lollapalooza; the tips you read Cherry Bomb can save your skin. If you hate your job, ‘Take your Job and Shove It!” and work for a record label or as a celebrity stylist. You want Smokey Rocker Chick Eyes like Avril Lavinge… oh it’s in there. Have a Hangover that feels like death from partying with the band the night before? There are simple rules in Cherry Bomb as well.

Borzillo-Vrenna aka Gotha Stewart has conquered the magazine world with her columns in Tongue Magazine and Billboard, done reviews for Spin Magazine and written her second book by age 30. So what is on the agenda for Borzillo-Vrenna now? “I still have many goals I would like to obtain. I definitely am a go-getter. I have a book bug now and I possibly have something in the works at the moment,” says Borzillo-Vrenna. “I would like to do a non-fiction, another music book or biography. Who knows?”

Either way, Borzillo-Vrenna has made her mark in lifestyle books. She was put on twist on life that is refreshing and new. Cherry Bomb is a great example of an alternative lifestyle that is not afraid to turn to into the mundane corporate society, make a person proud with themselves and possibly add a new edge to your own personal style.
