Projekt Revolution is on its fifth year of tour and is only getting better with age. With support from the founders and headlining band, Linkin Park, this tour has become one of the most anticipated concert tours of the summer. On top of providing a great line up of bands for their adoring fans, Linkin Park has made Projekt Revolution more than just a concert. Not only does Linkin Park provide a great musical experience for their fans, but they also reach out to those who are in need. With proceeds from Projekt Revolution 2007, Linkin Park teamed up with Habitat for Humanity and built two homes for family’s who lost everything to Hurricane Katrina.

This perfect summer day started out at the Revolution Stage. The up and coming band Armor For Sleep was first to perform, and was followed by Hawthorne Heights, and 10 Years. By the time Atreyu began their set, the West Lawn was completely packed and there was a sea of bodies packed in front of the stage. The lead singer, Alex Varkatza, made a great connection with the audience which was apparent by their energy and excitement. Everyone knew all the songs and sang along with their fists in the air pounding in unison to the beat.

When Atreyu’s performance was over, the crowd made its way to the main stage and established their seats. Street Drum Corps, Ashes Divide, and The Bravery all put on a great performance. By the time Chris Cornell appeared on stage, the entire venue was at its capacity. Chris has great stage presence; he’s very animated and interacts well with the audience. Throughout the entire performance all the band members were throwing out picks, drum sticks, and water bottles. At one point the drummer, Jason Sutter, threw a drum stick into the audience, quickly picked up another one, and continued playing as if nothing had happened.

Cornell’s set list consisted of songs from his entire career including Sound Garden, Audio Slave, and from his latest solo outing. Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, made a surprise appearance and sang a great rendition of “Hunger Strike,” originally a duet with Cornell and Eddie Vedder from the Temple of the Dog album. Chris put on a very moving performance when he Audioslave’s “Like A Stone.” The deep emotion of the song took over the entire audience as we all sang along. With his microphone held up high, eyes closed, and head back, Chris took in the amazing sensation and let the audience sing. He ended his great performance by singing the classic Sound Garden hit, “Black Hole Sun.”

With that, it was time for Linkin Park to blow the audience away with their multi-level set and eye catching lights. Three men began the show with a “Stomp” like performance. Black-lights lit up the entire stage including the neon strips on the men’s suits. They made amazing beats with enormous drums that pumped up the audience even more. They ended their mini-performance by making sparks on one of the drums with a Grinder Power Tool. The entire audience went crazy when Chester Bennington appeared on stage. Linkin Park played a plethora of songs from all of their albums including “Shadow of the Day,” “Numb,” and “Paper Cut.”

Chris Cornell snuck on the stage and made a guest appearance for the song “Crawling,” which was a great moment and one of the highlights of the evening. “In the End” was one of the last songs Linkin Park played; the entire audience sang along with Chester and enjoyed every moment of it. The night ended with a great encore that included a jam session by Mr. Hahn and his sound effects board.

Projekt Revolution was a big success this year. A big thanks goes out to Linkin Park for providing this amazing experience. As Chester Bennington stated, this could not have happened if it weren’t for the, “amazing line up of bands that gives 110% each day”. Hats off to Linkin Park and the rest of Projekt Revolution 2008!
