I wish I had seen the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie on the big screen. Who knew Disney could make such a fun action packed movie, let alone a franchise based on an amusement ride that originated in the late ‘60s. Yet it wasn’t until the first one was released on DVD did I finally see it and fall in love with the film and its memorable characters. The next two installments broke box office records and proved the films to be a worthy franchise. All the movies have been available to consumers since last year on DVD and blu-ray. Now if for some reason you still don’t own the films, or have yet to buy them on blu-ray, you can now buy them in one neat hi-def package.

If you have been living under a rock, the Pirates of The Caribbean trilogy is based on the Disney amusement ride and is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by action uber producer, Jerry Bruckheimer. They trilogy at it’s core centers around the story of blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and his long lost father, William "Bootstrap Bill" Turner (Stellan Skarsgård). Yet one of the most colorful and wonderful characters ever to be created on screen is that of the pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp.) Depp’s performance alone is worth watching these films in of it’s self. Yet these films are an ensemble cast that includes great performances by Keira Knightley as the beautiful Elizabeth Swann, Geoffrey Rush as the colorful character Captain Barbossa and Bill Nighy as the tentacle evil Davy Jones, to name just a few.

With great special effects, fleshed out characters, Disney’s Pirates of The Caribbean trilogy succeeds in making entertainment for the whole family. Along with the features, each film comes with a second disc full of bonus material. Some of the features include bloopers, outtakes, several documentaries, commentaries, games and more.

The Pirates of The Caribbean: Three-Movie Hi-Def Collection is perfect for anyone who is a fan of the movies and have yet to buy them on blu-ray. It’s too bad they haven’t added a few new features for this edition. Although to be fair, there can’t be a whole lot they left out from the first time around. Now with the recent news that Johnny Depp has signed on for a fourth film, these films are just a first in this already successful series.
