Part of the genius of The Sixth Sense is the things that are right there in front of your face that you just don’t see. Of course you’re not suppose to see these things and it’s the way they are being presented, that makes you/forces you to watch the film a second time, in order for you to believe the answers were there all the time.

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
Written by M. Night Shyamalan
Starring Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette and Olivia Williams
Rated PG-13

The Sixth Sense came out of nowhere back in the 1999 and was awarded with six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director. A pretty big feat from a new director and writer on his first major film release. M. Night Shyamalan came out of nowhere with his unique visions, supernatural plots and twists endings.

“I see dead people” is a line that became part of our pop culture. The Sixth Sense is one of those films that became a must see in 1999. M. Night Shyamalan became the “it” director at that time and for good reason. The Sixth Sense is a wonderful clever imaginative film and deserves all of the accolades it deserves. Even in repeat viewings it holds up. At this point everyone should know the premise and the twist ending of the film. However just incase, I will not say any more of the plot points. Suffice to say, The Sixth Sense is a wonderful suspenseful thriller that should be watched the first time without any acknowledge to the final reveal.

Now available for the first time on blu-ray, The Sixth Sense looks better than ever. Along with the film, we have all the great bonus material that was included with the previous releases. Although there are no new extras, there are plenty here to keep you satisfied way after the film is done. Still, it would have been nice to include a commentary track for the blu-ray release and even a pop-up trivia option to help divulge the secrets as you watch the film. Plus, this would encourage consumers to buy the film on blu-ray especially if they already own a copy on standard DVD.

Regardless, there are a tone of featurettes and bonus material available. From reflections on the set, to the music and sound design and even the storyboard process are all here to help give one insight into the film process. On of my favorites is the one entitled Rules and Clues. This one is perfect to help you watch the film and gives you the information you need to watch out for on the second time around.

The Sixth Sense is a film that shows a promising new director at the top of his game. Although the years haven’t been as kind to M. Night Shyamalan, The Sixth Sense will live on as one of more unique and best thrillers ever made.
