Christina Applegate is no stranger to television or to comedy. Samantha Who? is an Emmy Award winning sitcom about Samantha Newly (Christina Applegate), who acquires retrograde amnesia after she hits her head in a hit-and-run accident. Samantha still has all general knowledge yet doesn’t remember anyone around her, or herself for that matter. As Samantha starts to learn about the person she was, she realizes she doesn’t like that person and decides this is a sign for a second chance. However trying to make up for the former ways of “Bad Sam” isn’t as easy as it sounds. So is the premise of last years hit sitcom on ABC.

Christina Applegate is charming as the beautiful amnesia victim who tries to remember her past and reinvent herself. Who doesn’t wish they could change your future and forget your past? Applegate has come along way from the days as the white trash ditzy Kelly Bundy on the old Married… with Children comedy. But look at her now; she’s now staring in her own successful sitcom that is actually clever and enjoyable. Along for the ride we have great supporting performances as well, including her mom played by Jean Smart, who won an Emmy for her performance as Samantha’s eccentric mother.
Each episode we are part of the roller coaster ride as Samantha discovers her past life. From learning she was banned from a hockey arena for pretending to be handicapped to remembering how to have sex all over again. Samantha Who? is a fun filled well written comedy.
Samantha Who? The Complete First Season is now available on DVD. All 15 episodes are included with a few bonus features as well. First up is a commentary track for the pilot episode. It’s too bad not more if not all of the episodes include this feature. I’m always a big fan of the commentary track especially since the bonus features here are few. Applegate comes off on the commentary just as charming and funny here as she does on the show. The only other additional features are seven deleted scenes that have a nice optional introduction by the Donald Todd the executive producer and a sad little blooper reel that is totally pointless.
Christina Applegate has proven herself with Samantha Who? She is funny and a joy to watch. If you haven’t discovered Samantha Who? then what are you waiting for? Pick up the first season today and get ready fro season two.
