Wicker Park Brings The Art to The Streets Print E-mail

If you find yourself in the Wicker Park neighborhood Friday or Saturday night and happen to be walking along Milwaukee avenue near North and Damen Avenue, don’t be too surprised to see a projection of arts and artists from the windows of the Flat Iron Arts Building. The artists and residents of the Flat Iron Artist Association will stage “Point of Views,” a multi-media event correlating with the October’s Artist Month Theme of “Artist and Issues that Matter.”

“Point of Views” focuses on the themes of Gandhi’s new seven deadly sins; politics without principle, wealth without work, commerce without morality, pleasure without conscience, education without character, science without humanity and worship without sacrifice.

Event organizer and Flat Iron Artist Zsofia Otovos came up with the concept not too long after the Flat Iron Artists Association’s recent smARTshow. As a result, the many residents had to work together quickly in order to present the show’s unique format.

“The artists will each have their own window where they will be projecting,” Otovos said. “And as a result of these artists being next to each other, they will create a kind of competing slideshow.”

The artists will project their work through the windows of the Flat Iron building at night, from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. These works include drawings, photographs, sculptures, dolls, puppets, and live performances.

Otovos will present two of her pieces from her window in collaboration with footage from the upcoming film “The First Breath of Tengan Rei.” The artists’ studios will be open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. before each show.
