Axl, is it Really True? Do I Get My Free Dr. Pepper? Print E-mail
Written by BARRY BRECHEISEN

Has hell just frozen over or have I just completely lost my mind? That’s the only possible answer to the stories I have been reading lately. The story in question claims that the long awaited album by Guns N' Roses is finally going to be released. You read that right. Supposedly Chinese Democracy after all these years is finally going to see the official light of day on November 23, 2008 and sold exclusively through Best Buy. Is this for real?

How can we take Axl Rose serious at this point? He started recording this album all the way back in 1994 and it’s become the most expensive album ever NOT to be released. This would be the first album of new material since 1991’s Use Your Illusion I and II and the first without Slash and Duff McKagen. This album at this point has grown to mythical proportions. Each year a few new demos or new mixes have leaked onto the internet to keep us hungry but that’s about it.

Let’s be honest, it’s impossible at this point for the album to live up to the hype. This has to be the longest recording of an album ever and doesn’t that mean it should be the biggest and best album ever? Axel has caused himself more stress and heartache but waiting so long. I can’t imagine the wait has really made these songs and the album that much better. I’m sure he’s tweaked some of the songs and there are some improvements but 14 years worth?

This isn’t the first time a release date was listed for this album. Last March the album was on the schedule to be released, but March came and went and no album and no explanation. This March the soft drink company that makes Dr. Pepper, like many of us, had enough. They offered a free can of Dr. Pepper to everyone in America (excluding Slash and Buckethead) if Chinese Democracy comes out during the calendar year of 2008.

Yet it is not only listed currently on the Best Buy website, but they are now taking pre-orders. Best Buy reveals the track list on their site and one of two apparent covers. The proposed album is listed to include 14 tracks, almost all of which have been available in one form or another for some time. Even more astonishing is on Wednesday the 22nd, the title track and first official single from the band since 1999's"Oh My God," was released to radio.

Well here we are again, another date, another promise and another possible disappointment. Let’s hope the rumors are true and Axl’s Roses finally releases their follow up to The Spaghetti Incident?. This is way over due and is just getting silly at this point. I feared the album wouldn’t come out until decades later after Axl’s death. Let hope I’m wrong and on Sunday November 23rd, we’ll all be in line at a local Best Buy to finally see what 13 years worth of recording produced.

This a poorly written article.

I hope you're not getting paid for this filth... Which, by the way, looks to me as if you have stolen the majority of this article from another source...... Filth indeed.
Poor...stolen?

Sorry you didn't like my article but stolen? Doing my research makes it stolen? Oh well, are you a GN'R fan or just someone that likes to make rude comments?

I found that off of a GN'R site. Not sure if it's real or not. I'm guessing it's not but seemed to work for the moment. Not a lot oi art options from GN'R these days.
