With less than three weeks before the close of election season, Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama hit the road hard this past Saturday, traveling to both sides of the show-me-state. First, greeted by a record breaking 100,000 people under St. Louis’ Gateway Arch and then ending the day at Kansas City’s National World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial, where another 75,000 people were in attendance.

At the Kansas City event, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, once a rumored vice presidential pick for Obama, started the event by urging Kansas supporters to jump start the voting process as early voting had started on Wednesday.

Missouri has proven to be a tough battleground state and the Obama camp has been heavily focused there for months. It seems to be paying off as recent poll numbers show that this notoriously red state is now starting to turn blue. Good news for Obama, as the show-me-state has voted for the winner of every Presidential election dating back to 1904, except in 1956 when Adlai Stevenson lost to Eisenhower.

As Obama took the stage to cheers from all demographics, his message continued to remain close to the economy, healthcare and the war in Iraq. The senator started his speech by noting that during the debate that took place earlier in the week between Obama and Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain, he was told that if he wanted to run against President George W. Bush he should have done so four years ago. Obama told the crowd “, I don’t blame Senator McCain for all of President Bush’s mistakes. After all, he’s only voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time.”

Obama also urged people to take a closer look at his tax plan, underlining that under his plan, if you make less than $250,00 a year – which includes 98 percent of small business owners – you won’t see your taxes increase.”

Saturday’s speech continued to try and draw a stark contrast between Obama and McCain as the senator told the crowd, “here’s the truth Missouri – we are both offering tax cuts. The difference is who we’re cutting taxes for.”

Obama will continue on the campaign trail to North Carolina and Florida as McCain made a stop in Missouri on Monday.
