In anticipation for the next installment of the James Bond series, MGM Home Entertainment and FOX have just released 6 of the classic Bond films on the superior blu-ray format. You can buy them individually or on 2 James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Packs. Volume 1 includes Dr. No, Die Another Day, Live and Let Die and Volume 2 contains For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball.
What’s fun about these three-pack is the unique way the films are packaged. Both three-packs come in a slipcover, a special designed box that has the famous barrel of the gun with a hole that reveals a silhouette shot of bond on the cover. Inside the box is a nice black book like presentation where you can turn the pages to reveal a disc on one side and a summary of the film and the breakdown of the extras. It’s a nice way to package the movies even if it’s not in chronological order.
All 6 films include the wealth of extras that were available in previous editions. The Bond films have always been package right with great extras including commentaries and documentaries on the making of the films. These aren’t your standard fluff featurettes. These are documentaries that really take the time to tell you the politics on the making of each film from the pre-production, production and the post productions.
If that’s not enough, both three-packs include two tickets to see Quantum of Solace, the new Bond film hitting theaters on November 14th. If you buy them individually you get one ticket per a DVD. Also, if you do go the individual route consider picking them up at Best Buy. They are offering them each in a very cool tin container instead of your plastic case. They are the same size as regular cases but there’s something about the tin that makes it kind of cool. They cost a few dollars more but they are a limited edition item as well.
James Bond is one of those classic characters we can’t get enough. We all have our favorite Bond, but no matter who has the license to kill, we love watching all these classic films (okay maybe we can do without George Lazenby’s portrayal). Regardless, James Bond is one of those characters we look forward to movie after movie and have literally grown up with the super spy.
Daniel Craig has taken over the tux and has made the character his own. Before Quantum of Solace hits theater’s next month, pick up the 2 three-packs and relive the fun with James Bond from Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Bronson. These films have never looked better on blu-ray and why would you want to watch them any other way?
