Chicago has been well established as one of the premier hot spots for comedy throughout the last 30 years. Zanies has carried the weight as home for standup acts big and small and Second City has served as the golden pathway to comedic success on “Saturday Night Live” and “Mad TV.” However, its been quite some time since another venue has jump-started the scene and offered Chicago comedian fanatics an outlet for laughter. That was until The Improv in Schaumburg opened its doors three months ago.

ATMOSPHERE

The Improv (when a few more tweaks are complete) will be the largest venue for comedy in the country - with a capacity of over 500. The beautiful, welcoming interior creates the perfect atmosphere for a night out on the town, rather 'burbs, with great décor, service and attention to comfort. Although you won't get the stereotypical smoky, cramped feel of comedy joints, you will get the dimmed lights, great acoustics, and room for tons of laughs in The Improv.

CROWD

Even though The Improv has only had a few months to establish itself as a big time player in the Chicago comedy scene, many patrons are flooding to this hidden gem in Woodfield Mall. Thursdays through Sundays are packed with comedy fans while business executives and dining guests utilize the perfect venue during off hours.

SPIRITS

The Improv built a brilliant bar both in the main venue and the waiting area. Both bars are fully equipped with both top-shelf and affordable alcoholic options. The Improv could easily overcharge for spirits, but the fairly priced beverages are perfect for any budget. As many other comedy clubs require, there is a two drink requirement for every show. If you are not in the mood for a stylish martini, soda is always an option.

GRUB

If you plan your night right, make a reservation, and book a seat before show time, then you will be greeted to a fantastic menu full of items for any taste. The Improv caters to the bar-craving comedy eaters too, as an appetizer menu is available throughout the show. The nachos are perfect and come in a generous proportion - perfect to share with a friend.

PRICES

For a comedy show be prepared to dish out between $15-23, which is very reasonable for the level of entertainment you will get.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

It's huge. It's in the 'burbs. It's gorgeous. The Improv is basically the comedy heaven of the real world.

I have a comedian doing a show in Chicago on October 16. Would you like him to do a guest spot. He works clean and is very funny.
