Tommy Boy is one of those movies that reminds you of the potential that was there with the modern day Abbott and Costello duo of Chris Farley and David Spade. Tommy Boy was the first of only two films they made together and proved the two could helm a hit film. Tommy Boy is a film at the height of their popularity.

Tommy Boy tells the story of D+ student Thomas R. "Tommy" Callahan III (Chris Farley), who after seven years finally comes home a College graduate. There he is awarded an executive job with his Father’s auto parts plant. His father, Tom Callahan Jr. (Brian Dennehy), has another surprise in that he is about to marry a woman he met at a visit to the fat farm, the beautiful Beverly Barish-Burns (Bo Derek). On their wedding day his father has a heart attack and dies. Now it is up to Tommy jr. to take the reins of the company and make it a success before it is sold to "auto parts king" Ray Zalinsky (Dan Aykroyd). Tommy along with his father's former assistant, Richard Hayden (David Spade), head out on a cross country sales trip to save the business, the city of Sandusky, Ohio and on the way grown up a bit.

The special features come across as a love letter to the memory of Chris Farley. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing. The special features are full of wonderful memories of the star and it’s nice to see they took so much care into this blu-ray edition. Everything from a commentary track with the director, 4 featurettes on the making of the film, the Farley brothers and even some behind the scenes footage with Chris Farley himself, all reflect fondly on the comedian. Some of the best stuff is in the deleted, alternate takes and extended scenes section that showcases what talents the two of them were together and how much fun they had on the set.

Tommy Boy is one of those modern day classic comedies that’s still as funny today as it was back in 1995. Chris Farley was a star talent that’s light burnt out way too soon. The comedy pairing of Farley and Spade was a match made in comedy heaven. David Spade has continued to find work on TV but much like Dan Aykroyd, lost a bit of themselves when their partner and friend died.
