The Farrelly brothers have made some of the funniest and edgy comedies including "Dumb & Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary.” The Brothers love to push the envelope with their own style of slapstick and childish humor. The Heartbreak Kid is actually a remake based on a lesser known 1972 film starring Charles Grodin and reunites the brothers with funny man Ben Stiller.

The Heartbreak Kid tells the story of Eddie (Ben Stiller) who is an owner of a sports shop that is still single at forty. After a chance encounter failing to stop a purse snatching, Eddie meets Lila (Malin Åkerman) and they quickly begin a whirlwind courtship. Encouraged by his father (Jerry Stiller) and best friend (Rob Corddry), Eddie decides to pull the plug and marries Lila after only knowing her for six weeks. On their honeymoon in Cabo, Eddie gets to know Lila more then he ever wanted. As Eddie starts to realize the huge mistake that is his marriage he meets Miranda (Michelle Monaghan). Eddie and Miranda has an instant connection and after a misunderstanding of his marriage status, Eddie begins the comedic tightrope and balance of his wife and perhaps the woman that holds his heart.
Guys if you are in a relationship that the “M” word is in heavy rotation and you are having even a few doubts then don’t see The Heartbreak Kid. The film is based on a story by Neil Simon and the story is every guy’s nightmare scenario. The film has many of the Farrelly brother’s signature scenes of potty humor that has made them so successful.
Maybe not the Farrelly brother’s best film, still the Heartbreak Kid has some funny moments that are helped by a great supporting cast. The Daily Show’s Rob Corddry is hilarious as his best friend as well as Ben Still’s real life father Jerry Stiller of Seinfeld fame, as Eddie’s “live life at the fullest” dad. Malin Åkerman is out there as the insane and often very un-pc Lila. You may remember her in her brief sexy appearance in “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” as the white trash wife of the tow truck driver Psycho. Michelle Monaghan who is always wonderful and beautiful, is the perfect casting as the love interest Miranda. Danny R. McBride as Miranda's cousin Eddie is yet another great jewel in the cast that keeps the story fun and dangerous.
Now available on blu-ray, the disc comes with a ton of extras. First up is the commentary track with the Farrelly brothers. You always think comedians and the writers would be silly especially what comes out of the Farrelly brothers. Yet, the commentary track is quite serious and not as nuts as one would expect. There’s several featurettes including one on the Farrelly brothers, one on Ben and Jerry and working with family and another entitled “Egg Toss” which is an eight minute featurette on the cast and crew playing the game of doing what it sounds like- tossing eggs. There are six deleted scenes with the first couple being throw aways however there is are a few nuggets here. If that isn’t enough there’s a gag reel and the stuff with Ben and his Dad is a lot of fun. The gag reel also reveals some scenes with a sea lion that we never get to see.
The Heartbreak Kid has many of the elements that have made Farrelly brother’s movies so much fun. Ben Stiller and the whole cast help to create plenty of funny moments that is worth a laugh or two. Make sure you stay through the credits to see a hidden scene with Lila that is worth the wait.
