Event Horizon is an edge of your seats sci-fi thriller about a search and rescue team on a mission to retrieve a deep-space vessel that had been missing for seven years. With an all-star cast including Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill, the film is an electrifying suspenseful film that keeps you guessing until the end. The 1997 film is now available on blu-ray.

In the year 2047, the starship Event Horizon suddenly reappears in orbit around the planet Neptune. The state of the art ship was thought to have been lost after disappearing without a trace seven years prior. The Lewis and Clark rescue ship helmed by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), sets out to check out the signal with designer Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill) aboard. Arriving at their destination, the Lewis and Clark board the Event Horizon only to find the crew all dead. Before they can evaluate it something unexplainable happens sending a shockwave through the Event Horizon and damaging the Lewis and Clark. One of their crew members is injured in the process, although it is not completely clear how or what is causing his trauma. From there on the crew begins to have mysterious visions that appear to pertain to their fears. Looking for answers, Dr. Weir eventually reveals to the crew that the Event Horizon is no ordinary ship. The ship is in fact a unique experiment that can create an artificial black hole with its gravity drive. Is it something from another world that came out of a black hole that is causing these strange phenomena or is it all in their head?

Now available on blu-ray, the film looks spectacular and comes with some nice bonus material as well. First up is the commentary track, this one is between the director and the producer is quite good. You can really hear the enthusiasm coming from the two as they watch the film. It’s quite informative as they describe on what they were trying to achieve in making of the film. In addition there is a “Making of Event Horizon” that is a five part documentary, four more featurettes called “The Point of No Return,” three deleted or expanded scenes with optional director commentary in the section “Secrets,” a feature entitled "The Unseen Event Horizon" with storyboards and conceptual art on the un-filmed original opening sequence and finally a trailer. All of these were included in the original standard DVD release and because of it they are not presented in hi-def. Only the theatrical trailer is available in HD in the bonus features.

Event Horizon has fun playing with your fears. Its one scary sci-fi thriller that will keep your eyes glued until the very last frame. Event Horizon may have come out over a decade ago but looks better then ever on blu-ray and really holds up against the test of time. If you enjoy sc-fi and thrillers this film is for you.
