All your favorite zoo animals are back for more mayhem in the follow up to DreamWorks’s 2005 animated hit Madagascar. The sequel begins where the other left off with Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Marty the Zebra and Melman the Giraffe ready to board a plane and head back home to New York. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is just as much fun as the first one and is now available on DVD and beautiful blu-ray.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa first opens with a short back story of the King of New York, Alex the lion. In the jungles of Africa, Alex (Ben Stiller) displays early on that he is more of a dancer then a fighter. When his father Zuba (Bernie Mac), the alpha lion of the tribe, is challenged by another lion named Makunga (Alec Baldwin), Alex is captured by poachers. In the process of Zuba trying to rescue his son, Alex is placed into a crate that eventually falls into the ocean and slowly drifts to America. Alex quickly becomes the star on the Central Park Zoo.

Jump back to the present, our castaways Alex (Ben Stiller), Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith), Melman (David Schwimmer), Marty (Chris Rock), along with King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen) and Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer Cedric the Entertainer) are boarding a plane manned by the penguins ready to head home. Catapulted by a gigantic sling shot, the plane does make it up in the air but when the fuel runs out the plane crash lands into Africa. In Africa, Alex is reunited with his family and his tribe. Marty joins a herd of zebras that look, sound and even talk just like him. Melman takes over as the witch doctor when he finds out that giraffes’ only choice when they are sick is to crawl into a hole and die. Gloria finds love amongst a large manly hippo by the name of Moto Moto (Will.i.am).

These are just some of the fun that is in store for you with his amusing sequel. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa came out last November to mostly favorable reviews. If you missed it in the theaters never fear it’s now available on DVD and blu-ray. Along with the film we have a ton of bonus material to keep you entertained for hours.

First up we have a picture in picture commentary by the filmmakers entitled "The Animators' Corner” along with the Trivia Track that are both blu-ray exclusive. A commentary track with directors and co-writers Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath and producers Mireille Soria and Mark Swift is fun and worth checking out the second time around. There are a series of featurettes including "It's a Family Affair: The Cast of Escape 2 Africa," "The Making of Escape 2 Africa," "Crash Landing," "African Adventure," "Jambo Jambo: Swahili Speak" and "The Bronx Zoo: Madagascar." All are worth checking out and provide some fun insight in the making of the film.

One of the best of the bonus material is the sneak preview to the new Nickelodeon show entitled The Penguins of Madagascar. Two episodes are included and star everyone’s favorite penguins along with the whole cast now back at the Central Park Zoo. If that still isn’t enough there are music videos, a video game and a animated video jukebox.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is an animated film that is fun for the whole family. DreamWorks have continued to prove along with Pixar that they are on the top of their game in computer animated films. If you enjoyed the first Madagascar then you will surely get a kick out of its sequel.
