It may not seem like it but summer is right around the corner. With that can only mean one thing -concert festival season is getting ready to heat up for another great year of live music. It may have snowed over the weekend in the Chicago area but that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for sunny days ahead. Starting tomorrow at 10AM CST, ticket’s for the three-day passes for the 2009 edition of Lollapalooza will be available online for purchase.

Lollapalooza will be celebrating its 4th year in Chicago at its equally beautiful location by the lake in Grant Park. This year the festival will take place on the weekend of August 7-9th with 130 acts on the bill. For the first time this year patrons have a taste of who will perform before they buy their tickets. So far on the rooster of the three day festival are headliners Kings of Leon, the Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode and the reunited Jane’s Addiction. We should thank Chicago’s music writer Greg Kot for helping to leak this information out. One can only imagine who some of the other big names will be added to the list when the official announcement happens on April 21st.

This year in particularly is a special one with Jane’s Addiction being back as one of the headliners. Some may not be old enough to remember that in Lollapalooza’s original 1991 line-up, Jane’s was the headliner for the inaugural tour that would change music festivals forever. In fact front man and founder of Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell, has been dubbed the "Godfather of Alternative Rock" with many considering him as being instrumental in exposing the musical movement, that includes everyone from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to the mainstream. Of course shortly after the original Lollapalooza ended, the band broke up. It’s true that through the years Jane’s has toured but never with the original line-up until now. With their bassist Eric Avery back in this band this will truly make this year’s Lollapalooza a magical year. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat it’s self with the band immediately breaking up.

Tomorrow fans will have a chance to buy the three-day passes at 10am CST for the Early Bird price of only $175 per a set at www.lollapalooza.com . That only comes to about $60 bucks a day and not bad for the names that will be performing over the August weekend. Now there’s only a limited amount of these available and one would suspect theses will go quickly. Of course if you really want to make your Lollapalooza experience truly memorable, you can also drop some cash on the VIP Lolla Lounge passes. These LollaLounges that are located at both of the two main stages include everything from special lounge seating, lunch and dinner buffets, mini-spa treatments, beer, wine, other liquid libations, viewing platforms and more. It’s not a bad way to do it for a weekend if you can afford the $850 price tag. A little pricey but with less than $300 a day for all that isn't too shabby.

California may have their Coachella and Tennessee may have their Bonnaroo, but the Windy City has the original festival that is the father of them all. Thanks to Perry Farrell, the Parkway Foundation and C3 Presents, Lollapalooza has become a must see experience every year in Chicago. Do yourself a favor and take a coffee break tomorrow and get yourselves a pair of three-day passes for THE festival of the summer.
