Pixar Animation Studios has consistently pushed the envelope in animation and has produced some of the best and most enduring films in the last decade. Starting with Toy Story, John Lasseter and everyone at Pixar has received critical and commercial success with each film. Their second of nine films to date, was about the hidden little world that is the community of ants. A Bug’s Life came out at the end of 1998 again directed by pioneer John Lasseter. The film is a parody of Aesop's fable of The Ant and the Grasshopper. Now for the first time the CGI classic is available on glorious Blu-ray.

A colony of ants are harvesting food for their annual season requirement for a gang of dastardly grasshoppers. When the alarm sounds, all of the ants scurry into their ant hole. As Flik (Dave Foley) is heading in, he drops his latest invention a little too close to the food offering and creates a domino effect and all of the food falls into the river and is destroyed. The grasshoppers are obviously displeased and their leader, Hopper (Kevin Spacey) gives the ants the rest of the season to make good on what they owe. However, the catch is he is doubling the ration. Flik for his disastrous mistake is tried by the council and admonished for his actions. Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is unsure what to do with Flik. When he suggests he can recruit “warrior bugs” to fight against the evil grasshoppers, she accepts the idea thinking it will keep Flik out of trouble. After reaching insect city, Flik mistakenly recruits a bunch of circus insects who things they are hired to perform their show. They all arrive back to the colony and are instantly received as their heroes. Can Flik and the carnies find a way to save the colony or will this be the final mistake of Flik that takes down the whole colony?

Pixar’s second feature film proved to be yet another success at the box office and the rest as they say is history. Now for the first time, the film is brought to you on Blu-ray looking astonishing in HD quality. But that’s not all, there’s a ton of bonus material to keep you entertained. A commentary track with filmmakers John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich is next up that is full of information on the whole process of the making of the film. Geri’s Game is an Academy Award wining short that was originally shown at the beginning of the film in theaters. There is also Disney’s 1934 short the Silly Symphony "Grasshopper and the Ants," a Behind the Scenes of A Bug's Life that includes Pre-Production, design, Production, sound design and a gallery of publicity images. Closing out the bonus features are two versions of fake outtakes that appeared during the film’s credits.

A Bug’s Life, much like all of the Pixar films, can be enjoyed by the whole family. Now on Blu-ray, the film has never looked better and is the perfection film to add to your growing HD library. Oh and if that isn't enough, you even get a free movie ticket to see Pixar's latest feature UP, coming to theaters on May 29th.
