After a few beverages and some dinner, we were tired but ready for more. Stumbling over to the Black Keys stage, I was surprised by two things:
1) The Black Keys are only two people! I’ve been listening to the band for over a year, but never saw them live until now. Their sound is so much bigger than anything I thought a duo could create…and my respect for them as artists doubled when finally experiencing them in concert.
2) The crowd was hooked. I love this band, but part of any live show is presentation, and how much presenting can two people do? The odds were against them. The lead singer is not an overly animate personality; this was the point of the day that weeded out the quitters versus those who were in it for the long haul; we were still hours away from Weezer’s headlining act, so the fans that remained were weary, poor, and sunburnt. Yet the mass of people in front of the stage never took their eyes off the group, speaking volumes for the band’s ability. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
