“It’s not in a place that affects my voice so that’s nice” he continues. Nevertheless, the band will be delaying the release of their new album and cancelling their upcoming tour dates.
For those attending Lollapalooza in a few weeks it means the loss of one of the festival’s big name acts. But this is Chicago and finding a replacement won’t take long. The question is, who would they be able to find on short notice that would be on par with the legendary Beastie Boys? Here are a few ideas:
Wilco: A Chicago favorite Wilco spent an extended period of time in the city last year playing a series of concerts. They defiantly have a soft spot for Chicago and, assuming their scheduling works, would probably come on special request.
Jane’s Addiction: Already a headliner Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell could easily put together another show on short notice to fill in the gap. The chance to see Jane’s Addiction play twice would be an opportunity few at the festival would miss.
Bad Religion: This is a long shot but would make for a great show. The band is already in town for Warped Tour so having them stay a few extra days wouldn’t be a stretch.
Mos Def: Also in town a few days before Lolla starts up. Mos Def is a respected name in the hip-hop world and could easily put on an amazing show for festivalgoers.
As one of the headliners the Beastie Boys leave big shoes to fill on relatively short notice. Lollapalooza is well known for providing some of the most surprising acts of the season and something tells me this opportunity will provide the chance for something truly monumental.
I guess I was wrong on all accounts. An update to the story has the Yeah Yeah Yeahs stepping in to replace the rappers. According to Rolling Stone.com, Karen O and the boys will step in to give Maynard and Tool a run for their money on the Saturday night headlining spot.
Let's hope that Adam Yauch gets well soon but in the meantime I'll be looking forward to the fun stage antics of Karen O next month. Okay All Points West it's your move, who are you going to bring to the table?
