It’s coming. The biggest musical event of the season is almost upon us, will you be there? If you said yes then you’re in for a wild and intense weekend as some of the biggest names in the music industry ascend on Chicago. Here is a just a taste of what the weekend has to offer:

Lollapalooza 2009
Entertainment
Art

Grant Park
Chicago, IL
August 7-9, 2009

Friday

April Smith: Smart and electic April Smith is at the forefront of the indie rock scene. With music filled with passion and intensity she is an act not to be missed. Her song “Colors” was recently featured on Perez Hilton’s blog and on hit shows like The Hills and Newport Harbor. Although only 5’2” Smith has a voice that grab a hold of you and never let you go.

Hollywood Holt: Chicago rapper Hollywood Holt (aka Nigel Holt) is fresh from his first release and ready to tear the roof off. Holt’s music channels the fresh sounds of the South Side and mixes it up with some electro and punk just for kicks. His songs have appeared on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Check out Holt for a taste of true Chicago hip-hop.

PICK OF THE NIGHT:

Depeche Mode: While I do love Kings of Leon I have a soft spot for the old school rock scene. Depeche Mode are pioneers of industrial rock and should not be missed. Get there early for good seats.

Saturday

Delta Spirit: Full of raw emotion and thrilling guitars the Delta Spirit should be your first stop on Saturday. With a sound somewhere between indie rock and American roots they will open your eyes wide n the early morning hours of the festival.

Arctic Monkeys: The Monkeys fusion of old school punk and modern alt-rock is sure to tear it up at Lollapalooza this year. PICK OF THE NIGHT:

Tool: These metal pioneers deserve top billing. In a day full of indie and alt-rock the metalheads get their time to shine. Tool has been on the scene a long time and knows how to rock a festival. Get ready to head bang.

Sunday

Cage the Elephant: This Kentucky based band is a huge hit in the UK and just starting to make a name for themselves in the U.S. with the song “No Rest For the Wicked.” With strong guitars and dangerous yet mysterious vocals look for Cage the Elephant to be the rising stars of the festival.

The Raveonettes: Moody and surreal the Raveonettes are a unique sort of band. When they play it slow they seem to channel Depeche Mode in their prime, but when they play it fast they seem to burst with a fusion of what can only be described as industrial surf rock. Look to the Raveonettes to bring their own brand of cool to a festival overrun with hipsters.

PICK OF THE NIGHT:

Snoop Dogg: Torn between two legends. On the one hand, Lou Reed is playing at the same time and that’s and the chance to see him live in a setting like Lollapalooza is rare. On the other hand, no one parties like Snoop Dogg. The original pimp is sure to bring some old school and modern beats with him that will be the talk of the festival long after he has departed.

Jane’s Addiction: This is one of those events where regardless of how cool a band they were the fact that they are coming together at all makes it worthwhile. The already phenomenal band, led by Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, is set to close out the festival.

Farrell first conceived of Lollapalooza in 1991 and it has come a long way since then. It was also after that first momentous year that Jane’s Addiction split up. But not all good things have to come to an end. Almost two decades later the band has come to once again grace the event that they created all those years ago. Come out and show your appreciation.
