There is nothing like seeing a good band play a nearly perfect set on a beautiful day. On a blistering hot Saturday the band TV on the Radio knocked it out of the park from their first song to their last. It was by far the best show of the day.

The band started out light and airy and slowly belt up their momentum. Each song built up their momentum until they exploded with the phenomenal fan favorite “Wolf Like Me.”

Still, fame has its drawbacks. Unless you arrived at least an hour early and set up camp there was almost no way you were getting close enough to actually see the band. The densely populated crowd spanned all the way from the Budweiser stage to the Kidzapooza section. It was intense and took away some of the thunder from an otherwise phenomenal show.

At this rate TV on the Radio might end up as a headliner in a few years. Their post-punk funkadelic fusion is smart and catchy. Lead vocalist Tunde Adebimpe grooves to the music drawing in every fan along the way. The Roots and TV on the Radio should think about touring together, not only is their fan base similar but it would be a literal orgasm for the ears.

Now that I have seen them rock a stadium-sized venue and rock it well it has become clear that although they can groove large crowds in order to appreciate them you must be in a smaller venue. In order to really feel the music you have to be close to it and preferably have some amount of room to move, those options were in short supply at the show.

The future is wide open for TV on the Radio. Although they have only been around for less than a decade they have many, many years of music making ahead of them. Looking through the sea of people at the festival every single person had a smile on their face during the show. Music is about making people move and, if you’re really good at it, making them happy. TV on the Radio accomplishes all of that with grace and style. Truly, the best show of the night.
