Sandler's Classic Waterboy Arrives on Blu-ray Print E-mail

Adam Sandler is one of those unlikely success stories. Who knew the weird guy that would pop-up on the once popular MTV game show Remote Control would become one of the biggest movie stars of our time. Others may remember him as Theo Huxtable's friend Smitty on The Cosby Show in the late 80’s or of course on Saturday Night Live where he made his mark with fun silly songs and odd ball characters. After leaving SNL to focus on a film career, Sandler hit the big time with his quirky story of a waterboy who becomes a MVP football player. The film is now available on Blu-ray.

Written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler
Starring Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, Fairuza Balk, Jerry Reed
Rated PG-13
Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler) is an intelligent but shy stuttering young man who has no friends and lives with his mother (Kathy Bates). Bobby takes pride in his job as an over zealous waterboy with the fictitious University of Louisiana Cougars. His water is top notch and of the highest quality, however no one appreciated it’s and in fact he is tormented by the team. After being fired one day he offers to work for Coach Klein (Henry Winkler), who coaches for the "South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs" for free if he never serves the swill he’s been giving his team. On his first day a player spits into the water can and Coach Klein encourages Bobby to take a stand otherwise the players will never respect him. Bobby has a flashback of the past and puts the faces of the people that have hurt him onto his latest target. In a rage Bobby comes after the spitting player and tackles him into a near coma. Coach Klein immediately realizes Bobby may in fact be their best player and hires him as a linebacker for the team. One problem, momma would not approve. If that’s not enough, an old love interest Vicki Vallencourt (Fairuza Balk) comes back into his life. Waterboy is one of those movies that isn’t for everyone. If you are a fan of Adam Sandler it’s a no brainer. But for others, Sandler’s style of humor is an acquired taste. You either get it or you don’t.

Extras

Waterboy comes with absolutely no extras, not even a theatrical trailer. There’s no question any movie, including this one looks, better and sounds better on Blu-ray. However, Waterboy isn’t one of those movies that have amazing special effects and unless it has sometime new to offer it’s a hard sell to ask the consumer to re-buy. Even if they would have offered a digital copy that would have been something but instead all you have is the film. Enough? Well I guess that’s up to you to decide.
