In the wake of the injuries sustained by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, what was suppose to have been only a supporting slot with Aerosmith, has turned into a full blown headlining tour for Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. "As musicians, we sometimes have to improvise and that's exactly what this tour is about. We're going to get out there as quickly as possible and to play for people who want to come to a ‘down ‘n' dirty' rock and roll show – no frills and no holds bared," singer and lead guitarist Billy Gibbons states on their official ZZ Top website.

That’s exactly what fans received opening up the evening with “Got Me Under Pressure” with Billy and Dusty trading off vocal duties. Following that with “Waitin’ For The Bus” that segued smoothly into “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” the boys gave a taste to what would be a satisfying night of delicious Texas blues. Equally, Billy proved why he is one of the best blues guitarist today and wasn’t shy of proving it one solo after another. There’s a reason why these musical veterans are still around, they do what they do in their own unique way and they do it very very well. There’s no other band like the trio that is ZZ Top. They have their own style that they have been honing and perfecting for many decades and only they can do it. As it was projected on the screens behind them after shredding through the classic “Cheap Sunglasses,” they do it Rated ZZ.

Much like Guitar Hero is today, MTV in their 80’s heyday was an incredible tool for new up and coming bands. However they were equally important for those established bands that needed to re-introduce themselves to a new audience. No band took more advantage or reaped the benefits than that of ZZ Top. It is impossible when thinking of ZZ Top these days to not think of those classic musical video images of the sexy leggy women, the cherry-red 1933 Ford Coupe hot rod and the mysterious strangers played by the boys themselves. In fact, those videos have created a whole mythology for the band that is apparent even to this day.

Tonight the guys made sure that all eras of their musical catalog are hit. From the early 70’s with "Just Got Paid" to 79’s "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" and of course the slew of hits in the 80’s with the one-two-three punch of "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs". Closing the night with “Tube Snake Boogie”, “La Grange” and “Tush”, the boys of ZZ Top delivered the goods and proved they should have been on a headlining tour all along.
