Them Crooked Vultures kicked off their debut U.S. tour on a Thursday night in Austin, TX to a sold out crowd at Stubb's outdoor live music venue. You may not be familiar with the name but you are with the member’s of rock's newest supergroup featuring Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. Alain Johannes from Queens also joins the trio on guitars to complete the live package.

In some ways the group is a musical chairs of hard rock, with band members trading in their recent familiar roles and going with a more authentic pace. To date, the band has not even officially released a song which leaves room for experimentation and bounds of artistic expression in the moment. The sound is still raw, but it is obvious the collaboration that is built on the common ground for the love of music.
Grohl pounds his drums like there's no tomorrow (and manages to both smirk and smile between songs), Homme holds court on vocals and guitar, and JPJ explodes on bass, keys, mandolin, keytar, you name it. The band's obvious respect and admiration for their senior band member shines through, but if you saw a living legend shred on bass like John Paul does, there's no doubt you would feel the same way. Having collaborated previously on two Foo Fighters tracks, it makes you wonder if the band's conception was more Dave Grohl's fantasy project than a lasting collaboration fans will see for years to come. Only time will tell what the future lies, is it a musical experiment or a fully fledge band? Regardless for now they sure are exciting to watch and soak up for the moment.
The band also played a second show in Austin at Austin City Limits music festival, astounding a massive crowd with one of the best jam sessions of the weekend. Check out the rest of their tour schedule at:
