As everyone lives their day to day lives, an event occurs all over the world that will change how they see themselves and the world forever. At 11:00 AM everyone all over the world lose consciousness for exactly 2 minutes and 17 seconds. During that time, people witness what is believed to be their lives six months in the future at 10:00 PM on April 29, 2010. Is this “flashforward” a good thing? Well it depends on what you see. Some see love, some see their death and some see nothing at all.
For FBI agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes), his task is to decipher his flashforward vision and solve an investigation called “mosaic,” an investigation that hasn’t actually even begun. Agent Bedford caught a glimpse of it during his flashforward and these clues might help to solve the mystery of the black out. If they can solve it maybe they can prevent it from happening again. As the FBI start looking for clues they soon find out that the answers might lie with “Suspect Zero” the only person that appears to have been awake during the blackout, the mysterious "D. Gibbons" that was written on the board of his vision and a similar event that happened in Somalia in 1991.
Of course Benford isn’t the only one that has questions needing answers from their flashforward. His wife, Dr. Olivia Benford (Sonya Walger), see’s herself being unfaithful with another man that turns out to be a recent patient’s father. Benford’s partner, Special Agent Demetri Noh (John Cho), didn’t see anything at all and is coming to the conclusion that this can mean only one thing - he’s dead in six months.
Not all visions were bad, a co-worker of Dr. Benford’s and surgical intern, Dr. Bryce Varley (Zachary Knighton), who was in the process of committing suicide, sees a future he can live with the vision of a beautiful Asian woman whom he has yet to meet. A patient is saved in the process by certain physical attributes he see’s of himself in his vision and Agent Benford’s AA sponsor, Aaron Stark (Brían F. O'Byrne), sees himself with his daughter who was presumed killed in action in Afghanistan.
Flashforward is a fun trip to come along trying to decipher the clues with the FBI and the assembled cast. What does it all mean and will it deliver a satisfying conclusion is the same rush that fans of LOST are already experiencing. This is must TV for all LOST fans and anyone who enjoys these type of modern sci-fi show with all its twists and turns.
Extras
For a new show that is trying to wrangle in the viewers there’s not too much here. Creating Catstrophe: The Effects of a Global Blackout gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how they shot the after math right after the blackout. It’s cool to see what is real and what is not in this short featurette. Flashforward: A Look Ahead is a sneak peak of the second part of season one and of course is worth your time to get you hyped up for the March premiere. But that’s it for the bonus material. Not commentary tracks no nothing. Pretty disappointing for a promising show that still needs to reel in the numbers to keep it on the air for future seasons.
