8:45 p.m. Saturday My last experience for day one of Lollapalooza. I wasn’t feeling so hot by the time Rivers and crew took the stage. Despite the nine bottles of water I drank and hours spent in the shade, the heat had taken its toll and gifted me with one of the worst migraines I’ve ever had. But Nick Powills’ attempts to carry me to our car were futile; I was going to stay if it killed me.
And how could the set not be worth it? Things had cooled off and it no longer felt like High Noon. Enormous screens showed live video for the peeps in the back. The backdrop of the show was the Chicago skyline, hugging the park and lending a feeling of intimacy, as though there were only a few of us that were chosen to see the band. I loved that the guys played a bunch of their old songs first – “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Undone (the Sweater Song)” are those classic Weezer anthems that sound SO good on a balmy summer night outdoors. Best of all, the band maintained an even tempo, moving flawlessly from old tracks to “Peace,” from their latest album. It was a seamless, clockwork-like performance. I’m sure the part I missed was even more impressive. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
