The Chicago Blues Festival is upon us once again. Every year the best in the business come out to celebrate the music that defines Chicago. This year blues aficionados’ will be treated to something a little different, a live performance of the Grammy nominated album “Chicago Blues: A Living History.”

“ I wanted to do a tribute to Chicago blues in a way that hadn’t been done before, “ said Larry Skoller, a blues musician in his own right and producer of the album. Skoller gathered together Billy Branch, Lurrie Bell, Billy Boyd Arnold and John Primer to make a distinctly new Chicago blues tribute album. “The musicians I chose span many generations and are some of the best traditionalist musicians in the genre,” said Skoller. The result is a passionate and intense trip through the blues in Chicago past and present.
The album very quickly gained notoriety and caught the attention of not only the Grammy committee but The National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences. Such prestigious recognition has helped to put the focus back on Chicago music. Music would not be what it is today without Chicago legends like Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and many others.
If you live in Chicago, fans of the album will get a chance to hear it first hand this Saturday night at the Chicago Blues Fest. The concert will start at 7:30 at the Petrillo Music Shell so come early to get good seats for this once in a lifetime performance.
