Adam Lambert and The Glam Side Of Rock Print E-mail
Written by BRITTANY GEIKEN
Thursday, 01 July 2010
Adam Lambert is a name that strikes fear in the hearts of boring people everywhere. From his flashy fashion, to his sultry sector of glam rock, entertainment is Lambert’s strong suit. Lumino recently took part in a conference call with Lambert to discuss his upcoming Glam Nation tour and debut CD.

Glam Nation is Lambert’s first headlining tour. The tour is to support his debut CD, “For Your Entertainment.” When asked how he felt about his first record Lambert replied, “My first album was completed in three months. I’m proud of it. I’ve learned a lot about the business.” He’s released three singles off the record; the second titled “Whataya Want From Me” gained quite a few radio plays and landed on multiple iTunes charts. With an unlucky release date close to the British phenomenon Susan Boyle, Lambert still has managed to sell over 600,000 albums in the United States alone.

The tour is a blend of what Lambert describes as turn of the century New Orleans and psychedelic rock. In regards to how the theme came about he said, “I had a song on my remix EP. It’s a fun and kitschy song that is very sexy. I fell in love with it and the more I listened to my music, it all fit into the crystal ball and magic vibe.” Growing up listening to pop icons, Lambert was inspired by their tours when creating his own show. “I love big pop tours like Michael Jackson and Madonna. My first concert was actually Paula Abdul. I like people who tell a story. My background in musical theater really helped.” The show uses many different themes, just like the pop super stars of Lambert’s childhood. By weaving together elements from voodoo and the spirit of New Orleans, the Glam Nation tour was born.

For those who don’t know what glam rock is, Lambert’s tour will give you a crash course. Through working with the design company Skingraft, glam fashion has hit the Glam Nation stage in a big way. Lambert expresses, “I’ve always been fond of the glam rock vibe. Glam’s a lot broader than people know. The look we’ve found is punk rock mixed with historical clothing.” He has expressed his love for the garb of rock legend Keith Richards describing his look as “witchy world traveler” and “goth before goth became a cliché.” Obviously, Lambert’s clothes will be visually stimulating, as some already know from his “Mad World” days.

After Idol, Lambert was met with high expectations and a demand for the shock factor we saw week after week. When asked if he felt pressure to conform in the industry Lambert replied jokingly, “I think we all know conformity isn’t my thing. I felt pressure of expectation. Even though I performed classic rock on Idol, doing that would have been an expected choice.’ Lambert showed us how multifaceted he was on the show and continues to fight being pigeon holed.

Continuing with his tradition of surprising audiences, Lambert shocked viewers with his infamously raunchy performance on the American Music Awards. Decked out in leather, Lambert kissed a man onstage and groped his dancers. Lambert said, “With the AMA’s, I may have scared people a little too much. I look to my fans to see what they like. I am specific and extreme, and sometimes people aren’t looking for that. If you are, look this way.” Lambert is so likable because he is unapologetic for who he is. That is why his fans and self-proclaimed “Glamberts” love him so much. Lambert has two great opening acts for the Glam Nation tour. Allison Iraheta was the fourth place finisher with Adam on the seventh season of Idol. Her debut album, Just Like You, was released to positive reviews on December of 2009. On Iraheta, Lambert offers, “I want more people to be aware of Allison. I think her album is great and people should hear her.” As for his second opening act, Orianthi, Lambert says, “I met Orianthi at the This Is It movie premiere. She’s very sweet and very talented.” While Iraheta is known for her rough rock voice and Orianthi for her guitar shredding solos, both are sure to be a treat and great compliments alongside Lambert.

The Glam Nation tour has dates in June through September. His album, “For Your Entertainment”, is available now. Lambert assures everyone the show is sure to please hardcore fans and newcomers alike. In Lambert’s words, “I’m doing the same thing I’ve always done, just on a grander scale.”

Few performers measure up to the talent of Adam Lambert. He is here for the long run. I saw him perform in Wilkes Barre on his opening night. He is a born entertainer and performer. Every night he GIVES it all. Thanks Adam. Love, C

Great article. I feel sorry for people who do not get it and are so afraid to feel the passion of Adam's music. He Rocks, Glams and no one can sing Acoustically like Adam. He is the most exciting performer I have ever seen with a voice that is just unworldly. 2 Nokia's and Foxwood is not enough. Adam just makes you feel life with all its emotions through his music and being a loving, spectacular human being. I just cannot get enough of hearing and seeing him perform.

Adam Lambert has changed the way I feel and experience music. His sexiness and showmanship are 100% backed up with some serious vocal skills and the confidence of staying true to himself. Adam can change up any song and make it completely new every time he sings it. Thanks to the higher power which gave us Adam Lambert! I can not wait to see him three times in July!

Good article. Thank you for "getting Adam" and seeing his talent and genius and expressing it. I get angry when I read articles that attack just for the sake of getting a reaction from his fans. P.S. Boring people can be uplifted and inspired by Adam and his music.

Thank you so much for this great interview and article.
I'm obssessed with reading anything about Adam
Written by Guest on 2010-07-02 06:36:47
I saw him at AI8 Black or White and knew the world of music would never be the same. There are musicians who can sing. There are musicians who can deliver a show. Rarely are there musicians that can deliver both, over the top, on point, and consistently excellent, yet different/altered with each performance. Once witnessed, I signed on for the ride. And a glorious ride it has and will be.

I am not just a fan, I am amazed. Naysayers....just go to ONE performance please and then report back. That's all I ask.

The first sentence is the best intro to any Adam review I've read anywhere. Just sayin'. Adam ≠ boring, whether you like him or not.
Written by Guest on 2010-07-02 06:47:27
The first sentence made me laugh out loud, because it is so true! Some people are just afraid to jump into the pool of fun that Adam provides us. He has brought such joy back to my life with his magnificent voice, showmanship, and a new circle of friends/fans of all ages. There is nothing that compares to seeing him perform live. His voice surrounds and inhabits you. After seeing him perform at Foxwoods, I can't wait to see Glam Nation again in August.

Adam's concert was so much fun! It wasn't just amazing to hear, it was a total Glambert experience. The excitement and energy of the fans all smiles, mingling and chatting as they waited in high anticipation for their RA to appear on stage is hard to describe. My heart was pounding the whole time, from the minute I entered the venue. Such high, high energy and excitement. I felt so lucky and honoured to be able to experience Adam Lambert live!!! I do wish though that we'd be less insulting to non-Glambert fans. It's such a turn off. This is not a war after all, it's a simple matter of taste. Those of us who love Adam, love him madly, but those who don't just think we're nuts! As hard as it is for us, we simply have to accept that, sadly, there are those who will "never" experience the love, joy and excitement of being Adam's fan and we have to remember that those people have other things that they feel just as passionate about (although I can't imagine what, heehee). But seriously. Being an Adam fan is about love, joy, excitement and connection. Perhaps we would be wise to ask "them" (yes, those other people), about what their passion is and if there is anything they have felt really passionate about lately or in the past. You may be surprised how quickly they will open up to that and how soon you will make a connection. And that, I believe, is true Glambert love in action...

You either "get" Adam or you don't. I truly feel sorry for those who don't. He is one of the most joyous people in the universe and wants nothing more than to pass that joy on to his audience....... and for that, we love him. Oh, and did I mention the killer talent?
Yeah, that, too.

I love Adam so much. I saw him in concert, and it was the most amazing night of my life. I think what Annaberry said about respecting non-fans is very wise. On the other side, I feel so lucky to be an Adam fan. He is such a talented and charismatic person! (Not to mention hot haha) I love Orianthi too, what an amazing girl! The first sentence of this article is incredibly true, and makes me laugh. Go Adam! The world needs his love, glitter, and glam.

Thank you Bonnie. Yes, I was trying to say that we really do need to respect non-fans and although it made me chuckle a little, I was concerned that the opening sentence was rather negative in that it is somehow suggesting that non-fans of Adam Lambert are "boring", and that's simply not true. It's so unfortunate that presently there ia a war going on among music lovers? It used to be that mostly just country and rock fans rivaled but now with all the genres, it seems to have spread everywhere. Music should connect us, but instead it's pulling us apart....so sad, so non-Glam : (
I'm so happy and so proud to be a Glambert fan because other than appreciating and admiring a very amazing talent, it connects so many people, of all ages, race, religion and sexual orientation.....I just love it! I love U ADAM LAMBERT!!!

I love that all ages, all genders, all races, and any sexual orientation is going to Adam Lamberts concerts and everyone is rock'n out!! There are few that have this kind of a talent and anyone missing out are missing an opportunity to see this man while he is still in smaller venues. This voice is magic!!
Big Deal
Written by Guest on 2010-07-05 03:55:00
Unlucky date as Susan Boyle who has sold over 10 MILLION albums? 600,000 6 months later for Adam who I do like seems very trivial and not such a big deal though.
STOP THE TICKET HACKERS!
Written by Guest on 2010-07-05 04:05:01
EVERY CONCERT including Adam's local concert the tickets are GONE TO SCALPERS who resort to having young kids buy them all up and the only way you can even get a ticket is from a Scalper, Foxwoods Connecticut the third example we've had. Where are the cops when you need them?

I was there. It was for my birthday, why my mom got the citkets. Although, I'm short (not really short) but people in front of me were taller than me. So, I couldn't see very well. Though, there were screens to look at. It was my first concert. And it was a damn good one. My mom took so many pictures with her Droid phone.
