If you’re the kind of person that likes to explore newly opened places in the city, you’re most likely familiar with the following scenario. Lured by all the hype and advertising, you show up at the bar or club on a Friday night only to discover that that so-called newest hot spot in the city is about as happening and exciting as a dentist’s waiting room.

Ta’too
1365 W. Fullerton
Chicago, IL
(773) 525-2739

Hours: 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sundays through Fridays; 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturdays

By then, it’s too late. You’re already in and now the only way to leave is through a strategic escape plan - one that would get you out but not hurt the feelings of the well-meaning staff, causing them to weep in the corners after you leave. Finally, you resort to the always effective ‘sorry, my friends are not here’ excuse and rush out never to be back again.

Fortunately, that doesn’t always have to be the case. Although increasingly rare, there are still some places that manage to back up their ‘hot spot’ claims and even surpass you expectations. Ta’too is definitely one of them.

Located in Lincoln Park near Fullerton and Southport, Ta’too (not to be confused with Tattoo as in body art) is a Scot-Irish bar that opened its door just few months ago but already has a loyal following among those looking for a good time without the frills.

CROWD

The crowd at Ta’too consists mostly of 20-somethings who prefer local bars to the typical dance scene, but still enjoy places where they can dance in addition to drinking and mingling. The place also seems to be popular spot for singles. There’s always plenty of eye candy available, and meeting somebody is almost guaranteed upon entering.

ATMOSPHERE

Ta’Too’s atmosphere is unique, combining a feeling of hospitality characteristic of traditional Irish Pubs with a new, modern edge. Almost entirely free of any ethnic artifacts, it is inviting yet still hip enough for those looking for something with a sexier vibe. The bright red entrance and interior give the place almost a sinful accent, and slick, minimalist décor prevents it from looking dated. Seating is limited so be prepared to be on your feet most of the night, but that isn’t such a bad thing. If your goal is to sit around then Ta’Too is not a bar for you in a first place.

ENTERTAINMENT

When it comes to music Ta’too plays safe, accommodating a variety of tastes instead of being loyal to only one musical genre. You will hear anything from rock to hip-hop with a lot of old school party hits. There is no live entertainment yet but karaoke night is on the agenda.

DRINKS

Affordable drink prices are probably one of the reasons why Ta’too happens to be such popular destination among the locals. The drink menu is relatively simple, but with cocktail prices starting from at $4 you have no right to complain. Ta’too also offers a wide beer selection and quite a few wine choices.

WHY IT’S UNIQUE

Even thought Ta’too is still relatively new and it located in the area with tons of competition, it is still packed every Friday and Saturday. This fact should speak for itself.

The place is always packed with attractive people so if you’re single and your objective for the night is to eye candy Ta’too will definitely not disappoint.
