What can I say about Javelins new album “Canyon Candy”? Well if I could do this review in two words I would because those two words would be “why bother.” I don’t know if this is supposed to be a serious album or a bunch of clips for licensing tacks for bad old west movies and commercials. But before we dive into the album lets take a minute and talk about who Javelin is. I couldn’t figure out why there was basically no lyrics up until I looked them up and saw these two are DJs Javelin is made up of Thomas Van Buskirk and George Langford out of Brooklyn, N.Y. originally and an electro/hip-hop group. This group seems to be picking up steam however I can’t see why.

Back to this album and how bad it is, the album clocks in just a little less than thirty minutes. The first track is called “Fievel Goes West” Which I hoped was something that would be good and bring me back to my childhood and that furry little guy but no, it’s basically just a train going by. Very exciting stuff let me tell you. Now this isn’t the worst music I have ever heard but then again I have heard better music in an elevator, which this basically seems to be. The music is well produced which is something that should be expected from a couple of dJ’s. I did check into their other music thinking maybe I’m missing something from a group that played Lollapalooza. I really don’t see anything worth getting excited about with these songs.
The album as its name might suggest is all western type relating tracks but with every track basically being two minutes or less. A song is over before you can even get into it. The lone song over two and half minutes is “Streets of Laredo” which is also the only song containing some actual lyrics still is not compelling and is boring enough to put you to sleep. However, even with these tracks being short I find it hard to get through a whole track without going to the next one in hoping the next one might be better and then unfortunately it’s just as bad. The high point to me is the track “Colorado Trail” but yet again with only being a minute and four seconds it’s over before it begins. We can however go into some of the titles of these songs for a good laugh. With such titles as “Cowpoke”, “Saddle Sores” and “Love Gulch” then again maybe I am just that easily amused.
Now I state again maybe these tracks are just for transitions into other songs during a djs set or maybe for licensing purposes and that I can understand but, anyone that would purchase this strictly for listening purposes. I would have to question their sanity and taste as a music fan. I give this album a wonderful one out of five howls. Being very glad it was basically over before it started.
