There are few world events as monumental as the destruction of September 11, 2001. Every man, woman and child in America remembers exactly where they were when the towers were hit. The day lives in infamy and has reached into the lives of millions of Americans.

I was a teenager in high school back then, just starting my sophomore year. Reality stopped for an instant as events unfolded before our eyes on the television and over the internet. Many of us could not fully comprehend what it would mean in those days. America had been hit on U.S. soil, an act that had not happened in over a hundred years.

Suddenly there was a new enemy, a new face of evil. Osama Bin Laden became the center of the attacks on the U.S. and public enemy number one. And so the search began and last night it ended. Last night, after nearly a decade the U.S. found and killed Bin Laden.

The question we all must ask is: now what? Many are still giddy and filled with nationalistic pride. That pride is well deserved but has gotten us into trouble before. We must compose ourselves quickly and prepare for what is coming next. As much as I wish there was smooth sailing and peace in our future I am not that naïve. There is a still mile to go before the fighting is over.

It is my hope, however naïve it may be, that this will at least bring us one step closer toward a worldwide calm. We may not ever find the utopian future that so many of us seek but maybe, just maybe we can delay total destruction a little bit longer. Peace and hope can prevail; the events of last night have shown us that.

Closure is a beautiful thing. For the first time in nearly a decade the family of those affected by 9/11 can sleep a little sounder knowing that justice has been served.
